Chelsea have announced the signing of Ecuadorian midfield sensation Moises Caicedo from Brighton.

A club statement confirming the signing of Caicedo reads;

“Chelsea is delighted to announce the signing of Ecuador international Moises Caicedo.

“The 21-year-old midfielder has agreed an eight-year contract at Stamford Bridge, with a club option of a further year, and joins from Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.”

Caicedo, 21, joins Chelsea as the club’s seventh signing this summer as the Blues continue on their summer overhaul and squad rebuild under new owner Todd Boehly and new manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

Following a mass exodus of the club’s first team players, Chelsea have signed a number of young talents. Christopher Nkunku, Angelo Gabriel, Nicolas Jackson, Lesley Ugochukwu, Robert Sanchez, and Axel Disasi are new reinforcements in the squad this summer with Caicedo now joining the list.

Caicedo’s Chelsea move wraps up the craziest transfer saga this summer which pitted Chelsea against domestic rivals Liverpool.

After having four bids for the player rejected by Brighton, Liverpool attempted a late hijack of Moises Caicedo’s deal. The Merseysiders reached agreement with Brighton for Moises Caicedo after submitting a record £110m for the player.

However, they faced a uphill task agreeing personal terms with the 21-year-old as the latter only wanted a move to Chelsea.

Sources close to the club revealed Liverpool had made attempts to convince Caicedo of the club’s project but failed as the midfielder told them he is only interested in joining Chelsea.

After Liverpool’s failed attempt to sign the player, Chelsea launched a record £115m bid for the player which was accepted by Brighton.

The Blues already had personal agreement in place for Caicedo and have now completed the signing for the player. Caicedo is joining Chelsea as the club’s most expensive player beating the club’s last summer £106.5m transfer spend on Enzo Fernandez. He may likely make his debut for the club in their next Premier League game against West Ham.
