Chelsea FC and the club’s dependable midfielder N’Golo Kante seem to be on contradictory sides over the contract extension of the Frenchman.
The Blues, under new owner Todd Boehly, offered the 31-year-old renowned midfielder, N’Golo Kante, a new three-year deal but Kante demands for four years or he will leave the club on a free transfer.
The bone of contention between Kante and Chelsea currently is that the 31-year-old French superstar is consistently out due to injury.
N’Golo Kante has missed five out of Chelsea’s seven matches this season due to injury-related issues and he is becoming more prone to injuries in recent seasons.
That’s probably the main reason Chelsea owners are unwilling to give him a long-deal extension.
However, Kante is also reluctant to sign a short extension and has turned down Chelsea’s latest offer.
David Ornstein of the Athletic claimed Chelsea recently offered Kante a new deal but he was not willing to agree to the contract due to it being a short-term offer.
The 31-year-old desires to stay longer at Stamford Bridge and if Chelsea is not satisfied with his term, the Blues will lose him on a free transfer as the midfielder has entered the final season of his initial deal at Stamford Bridge.
Meanwhile, should Chelsea and Kante fail to reach an agreement, there are two clubs in the Premier League as well as others in Spain, Germany, and France who are highly interested in the French midfielder.
N’Golo Kanté was born on the 29th of March 1991. The 31- year-old is a French professional footballer who plays as a central midfielder for the France national team.
N’Golo Kante has been mostly rated by many pundits to be one of the world’s best midfielders. He is widely praised for his work rate and defensive acumen.
Kante joined Chelsea from Leicester City on the 16th of July 2016 for a transfer fee worth £32 million.
Kanté made his debut on the 15th of August, 2016 against West Ham United and helped Chelsea to a 2–1 victory.
On 26 December 2016, Kanté was named by L’Équipe as the world’s sixth-best footballer of 2016.
Also, on the 13th of March 2017, Kanté was named man of the match and scored the only goal in the FA Cup quarter-final win over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
Kanté was named in the PFA Team of the Year for the second consecutive season and named the PFA Player of the Year, the FWA Footballer of the Year, and the Premier League Player of the year in 2017.
So far, Kante has made 262 appearances for Chelsea since he joined Leicester in 2016 and won a Premier League title, FA Cup, Champions League, Europa League, Club World Cup, and Uefa Super Cup during his time at Chelsea.
N’Golo Kante’s impact on Chelsea’s team can’t be over-emphasized. The French midfielder is indeed a legend and one of the best midfielders in the world, his exit might flop Chelsea’s midfield if the duo fail to reach an agreement.
