Chelsea has successfully reached an agreement with Marc Cucurella, a Brighton defender in an attempt to bring him to the Stanford Bridge this summer ahead of the next season. The transfer bid was spurred by the impressive debut season of the defender in the Premier League.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the defender is willing to move to The Blues once the club agrees on the transfer fee. He also added that Chelsea and Brighton’s conversations are still ongoing to get the deal done.

Reports have revealed that Chelsea F.C is willing to pay the sum of £50 million for the 24-year-old defender since the current Premier League champions, Manchester City is interested but not willing to meet the price Chelsea is willing to pay for the defender.

The Spaniard moved to Brighton from Getafe last season in a £15 million move where Marc Cucurella made about 38 appearances in all competitions and played the left-back position in a three-man defense under Graham Potter, Brighton’s Manager.

If Chelsea finally closes the deal with Brighton, the Spanish international would be the 3rd signing of Thomas Tuchel this summer. The coach has expressed his desire of having players who are willing and able to adapt better than other players in the same league. He described the process as peculiar to the players.

    Marc Cucurella

With the current Premier League champions unable to meet the £50 million price tag on Marc Cucurella, there seems to be nothing capable of stopping this move.

Having signed a 6-year deal with The Blues, the Spaniard would continue to make waves just as he did at Brighton where he won both the Player of the season award and the players’ player of the season.

Joining Chelsea would also be an opportunity for the Spanish defender to be part of the Champions League which would increase his value should he perform at Stamford Bridge in the coming seasons.

With just a season at Brighton, he has successfully tripled his value from about £16 million to £50 million.

In the just concluded season where Marc was awarded Brighton’s player of the season, he had 93 tackles, 30 interceptions, 14 blocks, and created some chances. It is expected that after such a remarkable debut in the EPL, he would continue with the good run at The Stamford Bridge.

Although the Spanish International had agreed a 5-year contract with The Seagulls, he tried to force a move out of the Amex to the Etihad Stadium of Manchester City initially.

Unfortunately, the Champions of the league are not willing to pay above a 40million transfer fee for the rising star. Fortunately for Thomas Tuchel’s side, they are willing to close the deal at 50 million which is difficult to turn down.
