Englishman and manager of Chelsea Football Club has revealed that captain Cesar Azpilicueta is “conscious” and “speaking” in hospital following the head injury he suffered in Saturday’s shocking home loss to the Saints.

Cesar Azpilicueta was static on the pitch after he was hit in the face by Sekou Mara, as Mara a second half substitute tried a bicycle kick in the second half.

After the incident and the resultant effect on Cesar Azpilicueta, Sekou Mara looked dazed as players from both teams and medical staff ran to assist the troubled Spaniard.

The 33-year-old got oxygen treatment for many minutes before he was taken off with the stretcher, even though he appeared conscious.

    Cesar Azpilicueta’s injury

Graham Potter speaking after the game on Cesar Azpilicueta injury said:

“It was a bad moment for us. He’s conscious in hospital and he’s been speaking to his wife.

“We’re monitoring him and making sure he’s OK.

“I think he was unconscious at one point, so it was worrying for everyone. It was accidental but still it was a kick in the face. You can see how bad it was.”

Southampton defeated Chelsea via a James Ward Prowse-esque free-kick which went past the wall and dipped into goal, beating the goalkeeper of Chelsea Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Chelsea have now picked up just one win in their last ten (10) competitive appearances across all competitions.

They have also won just one game in 2023, a victory that they secured in mid-January against The Eagles Crystal Palace.

In attack, they have been toothless and profligate as they have scored only four (4) goals in ten (10) competititive appearances across all competitions.

    Chelsea FC next fixture

Graham Potter’s side travel to North London in their next Premier League outing where they face a tough preposition in Tottenham Hotspur.

The Lilywhites sit five (5) places above The Blues and with the desire to play Champions League football they wouldn’t want to leave any stone unturned.

It’s currently a time of turmoil for Chelsea after having a promising start to the season defeating Everton at the Goodison Park.

Cesar Azpilicueta, the captain of the West London side hasn’t been able to galvanize his troops for success this season.
