Former Arsenal goalie, Petr Cech returned to action as an emergency cover for Chelsea during a development squad clash against Tottenham on Monday.

Cech eventually led the team to a comeback 3-2 win. However, the match witnessed some incidents. He committed an error in the build-up to the first goal and then misjudged the ball into the area for Spurs’ second.

The veteran goalie won 13 trophies with Chelsea during an 11-year spell. The Czech Republic former goalkeeper conceded inside the first three minutes in his first match since May 2019 but later rallied Chelsea’s development squad to beat their Tottenham counterparts 3-2.

Cech hung his boot in 2019 after his stint with Arsenal and became Chelsea’s technical adviser. Due to a goalkeeping crisis at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea recently added to the Premier League squad as an emergency cover on a no-contract basis.

Cech, who won a record 124 caps for the Czech Republic last played for the Blues in the 3-1 win over Sunderland in May 2015, before joining London rivals Arsenal.

His last game as a player before Monday was in May 2019 against Chelsea as a Gunner in their Europa League final defeat.

Cech was among the players who were involved in a dispute during the second half of the match

The other incident in the match was a dispute between both teams which saw Chelsea midfielder, Danny Drinkwater and Spurs’ Alfie Devine given the marching orders.

After the incident, the Blues eventually fought back from two goals down to win in the closing minutes of the game.

Reacting to the development via his Instagram page, Cech wrote: “565 days after what I thought was my last game in professional football I had the opportunity to be back on the pitch … it felt so strange for the first 20 minutes as my “match system” I used to have while playing regularly was missing but as the game went on the feeling returned,” match system” reappeared and it was great to have that special feeling again… Well done to my teammates for turning the game round! It was great to get the win and 3 important points to go top of the league!

Well as noted, before Cech could get his said ‘match feeling’, he had already conceeded two.

All well and good, he is back in between the stick for the club. It is hoped that when next the 38-year-old gets another opportunity, he will quickly get the match feeling intact.

Chelsea currently top the development league table with with 19 points after ten games. Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers follw with a point behind.
