Carragher and Gary Neville delivered an unbiased and brutal analysis when assessing Manchester United’s transfer business since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013 after they won their 20th Premier League.

Manchester United has spent £1.2 billion and made 33 major signings since 2013. The Sky Sports Pundits ranked all 33 majors into three tiers.

Firstly, the green level is meant for good signing, while the amber level is meant for decent signing. Lastly, the red level is meant for players who have been extremely poor since they were signed. Carragher and Neville believed that it has been a catastrophe for the club.

Carragher has also criticized Manchester United for signing Cristiano Ronaldo. While Neville described the Premier League giants has a graveyard for football players.

Only two players received recognition for their contributions to the club and were assigned to the green level. These players are Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Bruno Fernandes. The last time the club won a silverware, Zlatan was the only striker that scored multiple goals.

Harry Maguire

He was replaced by Lukaku after Zlatan suffered a long-time injury in the Europa League semi-final against Celta de Vigo.

The second player is Bruno Fernandes. He made a positive impact immediately after he was signed from Sporting Lisbon, scoring 19 goals in the Premier League. However, his form has dropped recently.

Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic, Fred, Harry Maguire, Edinson Cavani, and Cristiano Ronaldo were among the players on the amber level.

Ronaldo and Fernandes

Finally, the red level is occupied by 24 players. Among them are Juan Mata, Angel Di Maria, Depay, Matteo Darmian, Anthony Martial, and Paul Pogba.

The old Trafford side have been quiet in terms of transfer window activity. It seems that the new manager will not get his preferred target. Fans expect a complete overhaul, but the club has only spent £75 million on two players.

Meanwhile, the club failed to agree on a new deal with several senior players like Pogba and Lingard. They allowed them to leave the club for free.

Overall, the squad is very thin and Manchester United have started suffering from that since the 2022-2023 Premier season campaign started.

Manchester United was so poor against Brighton and Brentford. They play Liverpool next Monday, and a lot of fans have already written them off. Erik Ten Hag is already frustrated by the lack of signings from the club.

The Dutch manager may walk away if things don’t change in the coming weeks. The problem of the club goes beyond the poor performances on the pitch. The Glazers have been blamed for not investing in the club properly.

Joel Glazer was the only owner who sanctioned the transfer of players. He sometimes ignores good players because of wages demand. He also considers famous players to increase the club’s share.
