Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed the veteran midfielder Luka Modric will stay at Real Madrid beyond the January transfer window.

There are speculation that he could leave Real Madrid for another club in the January transfer window but it was rebuked by Ancelotti.

In the press conference ahead of the Osasuna game on October 7, 2023. The manager said: “I don’t think Modric is considering leaving in January. He is still very important and we are happy with him,”

“I talk to Luka Modric every day and what he brings to the dressing room is something no one else can bring.”

“For me, he is very important even when he doesn’t play because he motivates his teammates. He doesn’t like not playing and it affects him, I understand that.”

The Croatia International signed a one year contract extension until June 2024. However, the midfielder had fallen down the pecking order.

Carlo Ancelotti now prefer to start Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham and Toni Kroos.

The former Tottenham midfielder had been linked with a move away from the club over the summer with a huge number of Saudi Arabia Pro League clubs fighting for his signature.

The midfielder made just eight appearances this season with three starts. However, he admitted it is strange not to be a regular starter but he is completely calm with the situation at the club.

Since joining Real Madrid in 2012 from Tottenham Hotspur, the midfielder had made 496 appearances.
