    Caoimhin Kelleher has shared that he may have to depart Liverpool to achieve his dream of becoming a first-choice goalie.

    Kelleher, who has functioned as deputy shot-stopper to Alisson Becker since he broke into the Reds first team in 2019 has featured mainly in domestic cup competitions alongside a few UEFA Champions League and Premier League matches.

    Speaking concerning his desire to become a first-choice goalkeeper ahead of Republic of Ireland’s UEFA Nations League clash with Greece on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, Caoimhin Kelleher said:

    “I’ve made it clear in the last few years that I want to go and be a number one and play week in, week out.

    “The club’s made that decision to get another goalkeeper and from the outside looking in, it looks like they’ve made a decision to go in a different direction.”

    The Reds signed Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in a deal worth up to €30 million, with the 23-year-old due to arrive in time for the 2025-26 season.

    Kelleher has apparently understood that he isn’t viewed as a possible successor to Liverpool’s first-choice goalie, Allison Becker, and as such, he is interested in a move away from Anfield.

    Reports indicate that the Merseyside-based club rejected offers from Premier League rivals for Kelleher’s services during the recently concluded 2024 Summer transfer window.

    It is uncertain if the Reds would sanction the sale of Kelleher in the 2025 January transfer window, with the Republic of Ireland international’s contract due to expire in June 2026.

    Caoimhin Kelleher added that his ambition had been well spelled out, and he is focused on exiting Liverpool to prove his mettle elsewhere.

    Kelleher said: “Sometimes from the outside looking in, it looks like that’s 100% my decision but at times it’s not always in my hands.

    “It’s been reported that Liverpool have rejected a few bids as well. My ambition is clear that I think I’m good enough and I want to go out and prove it.”
