Ahead of the 2024/25 German Bundesliga season, clubs are dotting their i’s and crossing their t’s, but a worthy question remains unanswered.

The question goes thus; “Can Bayer Leverkusen beat Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund to the German Bundesliga title again?”

This puzzling question has led to Futballnews, x-raying how the aforementioned clubs could fare in the upcoming season.

German Bundesliga Title

Can Bayer Leverkusen beat Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund to the German Bundesliga title again?

Bayer Leverkusen secured the crown last season following a stellar outing which saw them go the entirety of the campaign unbeaten.

The BayArena side picked up an impressive 90 points from 38 matches – winning 28 and drawing 6 games.

It is highly unlikely that Xabi Alonso’s side would replicate their unbeaten display which they delineated in the 2023/24 season.

However, they could still secure the 2024/25 German Bundesliga title even if they don’t go unbeaten.

Hence, the question over if Bayer Leverkusen can defend their league crown which they won last term.

The Bundesliga champions have acquired the services of 3 players this summer; namely; Martin Terrier, Aleix García, and Jeanuël Belocian.

Why Bayer Leverkusen Can Retain The German Bundesliga Title?

There is a high possibility that Bayer Leverkusen could go on to win the German top-flight league title in back-to-back fashion, given the fact that key individuals, who ensured they achieved that feat are still present in the side.

They have also kept a handful of the players that made them thick in the 2023/24 season and it is believed that they are still pumped up for another title charge.

Victor Boniface, Jeremie Frimpong, Granit Xhaka, and Patrick Schick amongst others are still present with the side and manager Xabi Alonso looks ready for more success.

Will Status Quo Return For Bayern Munich In The 2024/25 Season?

Bayern Munich’s failure to win the German Bundesliga title resulted in the culmination of their 11-year reign over the division.

The Bavarian giants were topsy-turvy last term, with erstwhile manager Thomas Tuchel not being able to produce the goods with his star-studded setup.

Bayern Munich

Tuchel exited Bayern Munich at the end of the 2023/24 season, with Vincent Kompany being appointed in his stead in May 2024.

Given how tasking handling a side like Bayern Munich is, one can’t guarantee that Kompany has the tactical ability to lead the Munich-based club to the league crown.

Vincent Kompany could need time to get the Bavarian giants playing the best of football and that could result in Bayer Leverkusen also running away with the league title if their house is still in order.

Kompany’s demeanor appears like that of a sound manager and his tactical approach might be productive at Bayern Munich.

The German giants have been busy this summer, signing several players that would help them regain their grip on the Bundesliga throne.

Michael Olise, João Palhinha, Hiroki Ito, Bryan Zaragoza, and Armindo Sieb have all joined the club this summer and more signings are expected to be made.

Bayern Munich ended the 2023/24 Bundesliga campaign “shockingly” in 3rd position, 18 points adrift of eventual champions Bayer Leverkusen.

Can the additions made this summer help them close the 18-point gap? Well, the answer will be provided at the end of the 2024/25 season.

Can Borussia Dortmund Be The Stumbling Block To Bayer Leverkusen’s Title Defense?

Bayer Leverkusen will likely not be scared about any threat Borussia Dortmund could pose to the title defense, as the Black and Yellows have often wobbled in the German Bundesliga in the last decade.

Despite the appointment of Nuri Sahin as a replacement for Edin Terzic, who departed the club in June 2024, Dortmund supporters are confident of winning the league title.

Borussia Dortmund

The Black and Yellows have had a busy summer signing stars like Waldemar Anton, Serhou Guirassy, and Pascal Groß.

Brazilian defender Yan Couto also joined Borussia Dortmund on loan from Manchester City this summer.

Only time will tell if these additions can help them obstruct Bayer Leverkusen from winning the German Bundesliga title.

The Black and Yellows last won the top-tier league prize in the 2011/12 season, and they will be aiming to clinch the crown in the 2024/25 season.

Bayer Leverkusen

However, Bayer Leverkusen appear like a house on fire, still in order and well-oiled to push for success in the coming term.

Certainly, Xabi Alonso will be more scared about Bayern Munich reclaiming the German Bundesliga title than if Borussia Dortmund can win the league.

Bayer Leverkusen had upset the apple cart in the 2023/24 season and they will be looking to fine-tune their strategy to maintain their lordship over Germany.

Definitely, they have the capacity to win the German Bundesliga title, but they will have to up the ante, as it won’t be business as usual in the coming season.

Domestically, Xabi Alonso’s side remain unbeaten and teams will want to shatter that run in the 2024/25 season.
