Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has expressed feelings of responsibility and regret over Erik ten Hag’s sudden departure from the club.
Ten Hag was dismissed last Monday after a dismal start to the season, securing only three victories in nine Premier League matches.
Fernandes, who scored his first Premier League goal of the season in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea, acknowledged his role in Ten Hag’s sacking.
The 30-year-old Portuguese attacking midfielder apologized to the Dutchman, demonstrating his respect and appreciation for Ten Hag’s contributions to the club.
Bruno Fernandes Heartfelt Apology To Ten Hag
In his first media appearance since Ten Hag’s departure, Fernandes admitted to feeling responsible for the decision to dismiss the former manager and apologized to him for his role in the situation.
After Chelsea’s game, he told Sky Sports: “We know that Erik [ten Hag] has gone, it is not good for anyone at the club when the manager goes.”
“The team is not the best, the results are not the best and he is the one who pays for it.”
“Whenever you see a manager go you have to take some of the blame on yourself, it is because the team is not doing so well.”
“It is easier to get rid of a manager than 15 players. I spoke to the manager [Ten Hag] and apologised to him, I was disappointed he has gone and I tried to help him.”
“I wasn’t scoring goals, we are not scoring goals and I feel responsible. Normally, I score a lot of goals but I always gave 100%. He is aware of that.”
Fernandes also paid tribute to Ten Hag, thanking him for his efforts during his tenure. “I want to thank him for what he did for the club,” Fernandes added.
New Leadership Brings Hope for Manchester United Fans
In a swift change of management, Ruben Amorim has been appointed as the new head coach of Manchester United following the departure of Ten Hag.
Amorim will officially take over on November 11, with interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy overseeing the team until then.
The former Sporting CP boss has a tough task ahead as he looks to turn around United’s poor form, with the team currently sitting in 13th place in the Premier League.
Despite this, Van Nistelrooy has managed a win and a draw in his two caretaker games, including a 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Old Trafford.
United fans will be eagerly anticipating Amorim’s first game in charge when they take on Ipswich Town on November 24.
What’s next for Manchester United?
Manchester United interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy will be in charge for the games against PAOK in the Europa League on Thursday, November 7 and at home to Leicester City next Sunday, November 10 in the Premier League before Amorim takes over in the dugout for United’s trip to Ipswich Town on November 24.
As Manchester United navigates this transitional period, Bruno Fernandes’ leadership and accountability will be crucial in stabilizing the team and driving them forward.
