Brest defender, Ronael Pierre-Gabriel was assaulted and his car was destroyed just weeks after signing for the Ligue 1 club.

22-year-old Pierre-Gabriel recently signed for the French outfit on a season-long loan from Bundesliga club Mainz on July 7.

Ronael Pierre-Gabriel joined Brest in season long loan few weeks ago

Reacting to the serious incident that occurred on Monday evening, Brest in a statement on social media said the defender suffered some injuries from the assault and his car was burnt in the process.

“Last night, in the Brest neighbourhood, Ronael Pierre-Gabriel was the victim of an assault and suffered injuries before his car was burned down and completely destroyed.

“Brest strongly condemn this event and give its full support to Ronael. In a place where these events are few and far between, it’s regrettable to see these types of incidents happen to a boy who only arrived two weeks ago in Finistere and had no issues with anyone.”

The club also said it won’t be commenting further on the issue and have left the authorities to do an investigation over it.

Pierre-Gabriel loaned to Brest after failing to get a regular shirt at Mainz

Pierre-Gabriel had started eight games for Mainz this season. Unfortunately, he couldn’t keep his place in the team after the Bundesliga restart from the coronavirus break. So, in search of first-team football, he was loaned to Brest.

The Professional Football League (LFP) had ended 2019-20 Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 seasons in April after the government said no sporting action will resume in the country till September. Brest was in 14th position in the league table when the announcement was made.

Activities have begun to resume France as Paris Saint Germaine, Lyon, Monaco and other top clubs in the country have started playing friendly games as they look forward to resuming summer transfer window and next season.

Lyon has so far played friendly games against Nice, Rangers, Celtic and Gent.

France is one of the highest hit in mortality rate of the deadly virus with 30,172 deaths recorded so far. The country has confirmed cases of 1278,000 after recording an additional 998 cases in the last 24 hours. 79,957 have recovered from the said numbers.
