Premier League side, Brentford have prepared a three-year deal for Danish attacking midfielder, Christian Eriksen who joined the club in January in a six-month deal.

It is like a miracle that Christian Eriksen returned to top-flight football less than a year after he suffered a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark in Euro 2020 opening game against Finland.

After the incident which gained massive attention across the world, Eriksen had to undergo an operation through which a heart starting device was implanted in him.

Then, he was contracted to Inter Milan but due to his device in him, the Italian club had to terminate his contract because it is against the law in Italy for an athlete to play with a device in the athlete.

Hence, Christian Eriksen stayed without a club for months before Brentford decided to bring him to the club on January 31, 2022, as a free agent. Since he had not played football for over seven months, the Premier League club decided to offer him a 6-month contract which he accepted and performed beyond expectation.

Christian Eriksen has been more or less a good luck charm since he joined Brentford in January 2022. The 30-year-old Danish attacking midfielder has played eleven Premier League games in which he scored a goal and provided four assists for Brentford.

Aside from his stats at Brentford, in the 10 games he started at the club, Brentford recorded 7 wins. This means that Brentford had a 70 percent win rate whenever Eriksen starts for the club.

More so, Brentford have 2.2 points per game and two goals scored per game whenever the Danish footballer starts for the team.

In the 28 Premier League games Brentford played without Eriksen in the starting lineup, the club recorded only 6 wins which means that their win rate without Eriksen in the starting lineup is just 21 percent. Also, the club’s point per game without Eriksen was just 0.9 and the goals scored per game was one.

Hence, Brentford are trying, by all means, to ensure that they tie the Denmark international at the Premier League club for at least three more years.

The club has already prepared the three-year deal, waiting for the attacking midfielder to sign. At the time of publishing this report, Christian Eriksen was yet to give the club a reply.

Why is Eriksen delaying signing Brentford’s deal?

Why is Eriksen delaying signing Brentford's deal

Immediately after Christian Eriksen returned to football, he made it clear that he wishes to play in the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA Champions League once again. He would most likely achieve the dream of playing in the World Cup in November since he is back on the Denmark national team.

But Brentford can not help him to achieve the dream of playing in the Champions League. Hence, he might be stylishly waiting to see if a club playing in the tournament would be interested in him.

Reports claimed that Eriksen was excited when the coach of Tottenham Hotspur, Antonio Conte, made positive comments about him. He is expecting that the Italian coach who coached him at Inter Milan in the 2020-2021 season could offer him the opportunity of returning to Tottenham, a club he played for between 2013 and 2020.

However, it might be difficult for Christian Eriksen to snub Brentford which offered him the opportunity of returning to football when other clubs were not considering him.

All the same, it will be very interesting to see what happens between now and July 1, when Eriksen will be out of contract again.
