Breel Embolo: Angry Cameroonian fans reportedly broke into his father’s house after the striker scored a goal against his native Cameroon.
Embolo scored Switzerland’s lone goal in their World Cup play against Cameroon which gave his country of origin a slow start.
Embolo, who was born in Yaounde and later moved to Switzerland with his mother, raised his arms up after scoring and refused to celebrate in honour of his home country.
The Monaco striker remarked after the match, “I’m very proud of my first World Cup goal, but it feels weird for me”.
According to reports, Embolo’s parents’ home in Cameroon has been attacked by a group of irate football fans, as his father is still base in the country.
In their World Cup match in Group G on Thursday, Switzerland defeated Cameroon 1-0, thanks to a first half goal from Embolo.
Embolo, a player for Switzerland’s national team, was born in Cameroon but as a professional footballer, that didn’t stop him from scoring against the country and earning Switzerland three points.

The Swiss striker, who was born in Cameroon, chose not to celebrate his goal as a “show of respect for his motherland,” as many have put it.
Meanwhile, many people have denounced the attack on the striker’s family in Cameroon, saying it should serve as a wake-up call for African leaders and sport authorities to make the continent’s sport extremely appealing in order to entice talented players to stay and proudly represent their motherland.
The 2022 World Cup is currently taking place in Qatar, and a huge list of players who were born in Africa are playing for non-African nations.

Professional footballer Breel Donald Embolo (born 14 February 1997) plays forward for Ligue 1 Club Monaco and the Switzerland national team.
Embolo relocated to France with his family before settling in Switzerland. Embolo made his professional debut for Basel in March 2014 after progressing through their youth divisions. He won the Swiss Super League in each of his first three seasons before transferring to Schalke 04 for an initial €20 million.
He sustained an ankle injury shortly after joining the Bundesliga team that kept him from playing for close to a year.
Embolo made his senior international debut for Switzerland in March 2015 and went on to play for them at the UEFA Euro 2016, FIFA World Cup 2018, UEFA Euro 2020, and FIFA World Cup 2022.

Embolo was born on February 14, 1997, in Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon.

Breel was the kind of person whose parents always make sure he looks attractive. His happiest moments occur when he is sporting his tiny Timberland.

Steffen Potter, a reporter for UEFA.com, hailed Embolo as a complete striker: “He is capable, decisive, and strong technically. He finishes with poise despite having a fast pace.”
Embolo’s teammate Fabian Frei, a midfielder with FC Basel at the same time, praised him for keeping his feet on the ground.
Mario Balotelli has been named as one of Embolo’s sources of inspiration. Both players have excellent control along with athletic prowess and enjoy hiding between defenses.
Embolo can also play in the middle of the field, where he is compared to N’Golo Kanté by David Lemos of Radio Télévision Suisse. In this position, Embolo uses his strength to recover the ball and pass it to the attacking players.
