Bournemouth Sign Brazilian Striker Evanilson to Replace Dominic Solanke

Premier League club Bournemouth have signed Brazilian top attacker Evanilson from Portuguese club FC Porto.

The Fluminese academy graduate was targeted by top European clubs following his impressive campaign with the Portuguese outfit. He is Bournemouth’s seventh signing this summer.

The Cherries have signed Daniel Jebbison on a free transfer from Sheffield United. Goalkeeper Alex Paulsen has also joined from Wellington.

Former Barcelona defender Julian Araujo is also in the Cherries’ defense options. Other new signings by the club include Dean Huijsen from Juventus, Enes Unal from Getafe, and Luis Sinisterra from Leeds United.

As revealed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Evanilson is joining the ranks of the Cherries on a transfer package worth €47m with a 10 percent sell-on clause.

The Brazilian forward will be expected to replace Dominic Solanke who has joined rivals Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Who is Evanilson?

Francisco Evanilson de Lima Barbosa, popularly known as Evanilson, is a Brazilian professional footballer. Born on October 6, 1999, in Fortaleza, Brazil, Evanilson is known for his versatility in the attacking third.

He can operate from the middle as a central striker or on the wings. Standing at 6 feet tall, the youngster combines physicality with great technical abilities.

Evanilson learned the basics of the game from the Fluminense youth setup, after which he established himself as a strong player in the Brazilian top category.

His performances aroused interest from European scouts with FC Porto leading the race of suitors and subsequently poaching him to the Primeira Liga outfit.

Evanilson started his football career in Brazil, where he entered the youth academy of Fluminense—one of the most famous clubs in Brazil and South America. He rapidly rose through the ranks and, with his goals, he was able to break into the senior team.

Evanilson made his professional debut for Fluminense in 2018, but it was in the 2019 season that he began to show his class. His displays in the Brazilian Serie A did not go unnoticed with Portuguese giants FC Porto swiftly poaching the youngster to their ranks.

Evanilson penned a long-term deal with FC Porto back in September 2020. At Porto, he established himself as an important player for the team, turning up for many contributions of goals and assists in different competitions.

He played a crucial role in the club’s domestic success, won the Primeira Liga in 2022, and put up stellar displays in the club’s UEFA Champions League.

Evanilson boasts an impactful trail in his club career. At Fluminense and FC Porto, he made 191 appearances, scoring 71 and providing 23 assists. He scored in the Primeira Liga, UEFA Champions League, and domestic cup competitions.

His goal-scoring ability, coupled with his work rate and versatility on the front line, made him an integral part of Porto. He had his best campaign in the 2021-22 Primeira Liga season – the campaign he won the league title.

Reports have it that Evanilson’s contract with Bournemouth is a multi-year deal. He is expected to replace Dominic Solanke, who was sold off to Tottenham. Bournemouth paid €47m for the services of the youngster.

Evanilson Honors

At Porto, Evanilson won the Primeira Liga in 2021–22, three consecutive Taças de Portugal, the Taça da Liga, and the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira. At the individual level, he won the Primeira Liga forward and Goal of the Month for January 2022. He also bagged the Golden Boot Award in 2021-22 Taça de Portugal.
