Bernardo Silva has spoken out about his decision to quit Manchester City this summer, claiming it had nothing to do with his love for the club.
Bernardo’s desire to leave City was revealed over the summer, and Pep Guardiola confirmed his intentions at the start of the new season.
City, on the other hand, did not receive any suitable offers for Bernardo, therefore the Portuguese midfielder has remained at the Etihad this season and is in the finest form of his career.
Bernardo Silva has now detailed how the pandemic made him homesick, and how this was the motivating force behind his wish to flee in an interview with the New York Times.
“People suffered considerably more than we did,” he continued, “but it was difficult for me since I was separated from my family.” I used to spend a couple of days in Portugal with my parents and eat supper with them. It was simply dinner, but it’s good to be with your parents. It was difficult not to be able to do so.
“To be honest, that wasn’t a pleasant situation.” I was alone in my flat for a time. My girlfriend arrived later. It was detrimental to everyone. I could tell by the expressions on my teammates’ faces that it was a difficult time for them as well.”
“I was feeling a little lonely in England at the moment, and I wasn’t satisfied with my life.” And when you’re unhappy, you don’t do as well at work as you do when you’re pleased. Physically, I was fine, but if you don’t do your job with a grin on your face, you won’t do it properly.
“I talked to the club about it because I wasn’t content with my life here and wanted to be closer to my family.” It was, however, unrelated to the club. Manchester City is one of my favorite teams. I adore my teammates, the supporters, and the club.

“Nothing occurred after that. I stayed, and as long as I’m here, I’ll always give my all for this club.”
Bernardo then gave an update on his future plans, stating that he plans to meet with the club at the end of the season to discuss whether he wants to stay, leave, or sign a new contract.
“I’m going to sit down with City at the conclusion of the season and see what’s best for both parties,” he stated. We’re in the middle of the season, and we’re aiming for a number of significant prizes.
“We have the option of winning all three, none, or one. Now is not the time to discuss [my future].”
