Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy might spend the coming Christmas and New Year holiday in prison. When he appeared before Chester Crown Court on Friday, September 10, the court failed to grant him bail after the court hearing.

To make matters worst for Benjamin Mendy, the court scheduled that the football star would face trial on January 24, 2022, and he would remain in prison until then.

Recall that in August, Benjamin Mendy was charged with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

The Manchester City defender and the out-of-favor French international reportedly attacked the victims at his mansion in Cheshire between October 2020 and August 2021.

The 27-year-old French defender reportedly committed the crimes in October 2020, another in January 2021, and another in August 2021.

He was arrested and charged on August 26, 2021. Ever since then, the court has denied him bail because he reportedly breached his initial bail condition.

According to Christopher Stables, the attorney of Benjamin Mendy, the Manchester City defender has denied that he committed all the allegations leveled against him.

Before the commencement of his trial in January, Benjamin Mendy will appear in court on November 15, 2021.

According to the law firm that is defending the Manchester City defender, Eleanor Laws QC, the law firm would use the November hearing to submit an application to dismiss the charges against Mendy.

Benjamin Mendy has made 10 appearances for France since he made his debut on March 25, 20,17.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is currently at the HMP Altcourse prison in Liverpool.

Manchester City have suspended the player since August and will remain suspended pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation and trial.

Benjamin Mendy still has two full seasons left on his contract with Manchester City which means that he remains the player of the club until June 30, 2023.

Since he joined the club from Monaco on July 24, 2017, for a reported £52 million, he has played 75 times in which he scored 2 goals and provided 12 assists.
