With the home advantage, Thomas Tuchel was expected to comfortably dispatch the visitors and hanged on with their advantage to win the league.

A win would have seen the Champions League quarterfinalist extend their lead at the top to four points while awaiting the result of Borussia Dortmund’s clash against Augsburg.

The Bavarians started on a good note. They took a narrow 1-0 lead into the first half against the visitors with Serge Gnabry’s 25th-minute strike.

RB Leipzig turned the game on its head in the second, scoring three pass the home side to dent their Bundesliga title hopes.

Laimer opened the scoring for the away side before Christopher Nkunku doubled it after converting a spot-kick in the 75th minute to put Leipzig on the lead.

RB Leipzig survived a late marathon of pressure to secure a 3-1 win after the final whistle.

Despite the shock home defeat, Bayern Munich are still a point clear at the Bundesliga top but have played a game more than Borussia Dortmund.

The Bundesliga title race will be dragged to the final matchday as things stand but Borussia Dortmund will be crowned champions if they win the two remaining matches against Augsburg and Mainz.

Bayern Munich are Bundesliga dominoes. They are the most successful team in Germany. They have won the league 31 times, including the last 10 seasons.

Borussia Dortmund last won the Bundesliga title in 2012 and will be hoping to clinch their first trophy in over a decade should they win the two remaining matches.

After losing out of the Champions League and German Super Cup, losing the Bundesliga title to Borussia Dortmund means the Bavarians will end their 2022/23 campaign without a trophy under Thomas Tuchel but were strongly in contention in all three competitions under former boss Julian Nagelsmann.
