Bayern Munich has won their sixth Champions League title after 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in Lisbon on Sunday.

The German giants became the first side to win the Champions League after winning every single game in the campaign, setting a new competition record.

Asked about the new set record after the game, Serge Gnabry said: “It sounds amazing!”

He added: “Winning the trophy today is the best thing that could happen to us. We worked incredibly hard and in the end it came through to be the best team in Europe,”

“It’s the final, Paris came out wanting to win and so did we. Nobody is going to give up easily but we came through.”

“As long as it was 0-0, it was always going to be open for us. Of course, they were going to have chances. It was lucky they didn’t score and lucky we did score.”

En route to the title, Bayern Munich had some memorable victories against some of Europe’s elite clubs.

They finished at the top of their group, howling all possible 18 points, with a remarkable +19 goal difference. Memorable group-stage matches include their 7-2 victory at Tottenham and 6-0 win over Red Star.

What followed in the knockout stages was simply mind-blowing. They beat Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge before a 4-1 second-leg victory post the coronavirus break in football.

Bayern then broke the internet with an 8-2 win over Barcelona in the quarter-finals, equaling the competition’s record highest-win. They then defeated Olympique Lyon 3-0 in the semi-finals to set up a highly-anticipated clash with Paris Saint-Germain in the finals.

PSG were playing in their first European Cup final in history but have fallen short on the final step to glory.

In a game of close margins, PSG rued their wastefulness in front of goal as Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Di Maria all failed to bury a series of glorious first-half opportunities from close range.

France international Kingsley Coman finally broke the deadlock in the 59th minute, finishing a sweetly lobbed cross from Joshua Kimmich.

Coman’s strike was enough to hand Bayern Munich their sixth Champions League title.

One year ago, Bayern Munich, under Niko Kovac, was eliminated by Liverpool in the round of 16. After a poor start to the 2019/20 campaign, Kovac was sacked and replaced by his assistant coach Hansi Flick.

Flick replaced, initially appointed as caretaker, has now gone on to win do the treble.

“I am proud of the team,” said the Bayern boss, speaking on the Champions League success.

“When I saw the headlines in November, all I read was that nobody is afraid of Bayern anymore. The development since then has been crazy.

“We deserved to win, because of the second half. You could already see in training at our winter camp in January that something big was growing. The team just has this overwhelming will to win.”

He added: “It’s a pity that the fans couldn’t be here with us today. Perhaps they can be back again in the future. A game like this without supporters is not the football that we know.”

Their victory also means Bayern have won their last win 21 games in a row in all competitions, having also stormed to the Bundesliga title.
