Bayern Munich have sacked Julian Nagelsmann and appointed Thomas Tuchel as the club’s new manager.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Bavarians engaged in hours of talks to decide the fate of Julian Nagelsmann following the team’s underwhelming display in the Bundesliga this season.
Now, it has been confirmed the Bavarians have parted ways with Julian Nagelsmann after the talks on the way forward and have appointed former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel as new manager.
Tuchel’s appointment as new Bayern Munich manager is coming just months after he was sacked by Chelsea under the Blues’ new leadership lead by Todd Boehly.
Despite winning the Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup, including UEFA Super Cup, Thomas Tuchel was relieved of his role as manager after Chelsea lost Champions League group game to Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb coupled with the Blues’ early dismal campaign in the Premier League.
He has been jobless since September last year following the sack but was linked with Bayern Munich, including a return to PSG.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayern Munich have sacked Julian Nagelsmann and have appointed Thomas Tuchel as the club’s manager.
As of the time of filing this report, it was confirmed Bayern Munich are preparing final documents for Thomas Tuchel’s contract at Allianz Arena.
Meanwhile, the Champions League winner is said to have accepted the job and reached full agreement with the club and will resume duties with the Bavarians with immediate effect.
Why did Bayern Munich sack Julian Nagelsmann?
While the club is yet to release an official statement confirming the sack of Julian Nagelsmann, Futballnews understand Julian Nagelsmann has been under pressure after he recorded three consecutive draws in 2023, dropping points in the Bundesliga and allowing rivals Borussia Dortmund to catch up and overtake them in the Bundesliga title race.
Nagelsmann earned some credits after he wave aside his poor domestic form to eliminate PSG from the Champions League, beating them home and away.
However, they suffered a shock defeat against Bayer Leverkusen, allowing Borussia Dortmund hit the pole position in the Bundesliga title race.
The loss to Leverkusen must have been the last straw that broke the camel’s back but Bayern Munich held on until the international break to decide on Julian Nagelsmann’s future.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed talks have been going on internally for hours before it was confirmed by sources close to the club that the German tactician has been fired and Thomas Tuchel was named as his replacement.
Bayern Munich are strongly in Bundesliga title race, just a point below Borussia. They are also in the Champions League. They will take on Manchester City in the quarterfinal.
Thomas Tuchel is now saddled with the task of winning the Bundesliga, including the Champions League with the Bavarians.
