Bayern Munich is not ready to sell defender David Alaba

    Bayern Munich defender, David Alaba has been linked with Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea among others, but his club is not willing to release him.

    Former Bayern and Germany number one goalkeeper, Oliver Kahn said the Bundesliga champions are confident of retaining him.

    Alaba, who started as a left-back for the Bavarians has been converted to a central back and he been pairing with Jerome Boateng excellently. The German Bundesliga champions, who is also a five-time Champions League winners, recently progressed to the final of the competition after beating Lyon 3-0 in the semi-final on Wednesday.

    28-year-old Alaba, who has been a fixture in Bayern’s first team for almost a decade, has a contract running until 2021.

    With a year left on his deal with the Bavarian, the Austrian has been linked with hosts of clubs who are ready to take advantage of the situation. There is also speculation that he could leave the club either for free next year or in a cut-price deal in the current window.

    Khan, who is an executive board member at the club expressed the believe that Alaba’s future will be resolved soon.

    “We are currently in frequent talks with David Alaba and his advisors. Of course, I can’t talk about the content, but I think we’re getting closer. The atmosphere during the last conversation was very pleasant.

    “We’re doing everything we can to keep David. At the moment I’m optimistic that we can keep David,” Kahn told reporters.

    Alaba, who made his first-team debut under Louis van Gaal in 2010, has gone on to make almost 400 appearances for the club in all competitions.

    He has won nine Bundesliga titles, five DFB-Pokals and the Champions League with the Bavarians so far. He could be winning another Champions League trophy in Sunday’s final against Paris Saint-Germain.

    Alaba was named in UEFA’s Team of the Year twice and once in France Football’s World XI.

    Recall that Bayern’s Chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had said earlier in August that he was ‘cautiously optimistic’ of keeping Alaba at the club.
