Tottenham react to the 24-hour ultimatum that was given by Bayern Munich over the signing of striker Harry Kane this summer.
The said ultimatum that was given by the Bundesliga Champions expired on Friday, 4 August 2023.
Reports have it that Daniel Levy, Tottenham’s President, ignored the ultimatum regarding the transfer of England’s national team striker.
Recall we reported that Bayern Munich in their bid to sign Harry Kane had their representative in London to discuss a deal.
They even went ahead to give Tottenham a 24-hour timeline to reach a conclusion on the striker, but it was however ignored.
Football Transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the ultimatum via his social media handles with German papers Bild also confirming it.
Fabrizio wrote: “🚨 𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆: Bayern expect Spurs to decide on Harry Kane deal within 24 hours! ⏳⚠️”
“Bayern improved their bid for Kane one last time. German club want Tottenham to decide in 24 hours.”
“Up to Daniel Levy who has to make final decision – Looks like Deadline Day for Harry Kane deal 🧨”
Despite Bayern Munich and Spurs having positive talks last week, there remains a substantial gap between both clubs’ valuation of Kane.
Bayern Munich went ahead to submit a new offer for the striker who has spent most of his career at Tottenham, but was ignored.
In the past, the Premier League teams have sold their players to clubs outside England (Gareth Bale and Luka Modric) at the end of transfer windows.
Bayern Munich were not interested in a transfer saga or much back and forth, hence, the more reason why they gave an ultimatum.
Harry Kane is open to joining Bayern and he has held productive talks with Thomas Tuchel, which will make personal terms a formality if both clubs can reach an agreement over the transfer fee.
However, Kane is not interested in joining PSG this summer and does not also fancy Manchester United despite them having a new coach.
Tottenham, in a bid to keep Harry Kane, offered a lucrative new deal to the striker, but he is in no rush to sign a new contract when the transfer window is open.
However, fresh reports have it that Tottenham chairman Levy has flown to Miami, and is working from Florida while he weighs up Bayern’s offer of £86million with £17million in add-ons.
Following the silence from Spurs in regard to Bayern’s offer, it means Harry Kane is caught between a rock and a hard place.
Kane on the other hand, wants his future clarified before Spurs’ first game of the season against Brentford on August 13.
The 30-year-old is into his final year at the club and clearly has no intention of signing a new contract.
Kane will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside England from January 1.
Bayern Munich have already had two bids rejected and club representatives have been in England this week for talks with Tottenham.
Despite the Bundesliga Champions offering over £50m for Harry Kane, Spurs are still adamant on their valuation of £100m for Kane.
How Will Harry Kane Fit At Bayern Munich?
The ball is in Spurs’ court to make a decision or risk losing Kane on a free transfer in 2024.
Former Tottenham manager David Pleat described Kane as an “old-fashioned traditional center-forward”.
Harry Kane is a tall and physical striker and his style of play has been compared to that of former Tottenham forward Jürgen Klinsmann, a comparison Kane called flattering in February 2015.
Kane also has a good hold-up play and close control and he is seen as one of the best strikers in the world.
Kane, 30, has played 435 matches in various competitions for Tottenham and has scored 280 goals and provided 64 assists.
With these stats, the Spurs and England captain is sure to fit into Bayern Munich and this is the season the German side wants him so badly.
