The drama between Bayern Munich and the current coach of the club, Hansi Flick is beginning to get more interesting. The club issued a statement earlier today to claim that the club disapproved of the coach’s request for the termination of his contract.
Recall that on Saturday, April 17, the German tactician said in a press conference that he has informed the club that he would terminate his contract at the end of this season. He also revealed that he has told his players about it.
Hansi Flick who has been at the club since 2019 is said to be having a tough time with the club’s board in the last couple of weeks. Though the reason for the crisis between the coach and the club’s board is not known, he is determined not to see through his contract with the club which will expire in the summer of 2023.
Some pundits believe that the coach decided to leave the club because the club has allowed some of his first-choice players to leave the club between last season and this season.
Recall that Bayern Munich lost Thiago Alcantara to Liverpool last summer. The German giants are on the verge of losing their defenders, Jerome Boateng and David Alaba at the end of this season.
Some of the shake-ups in the coach’s team are believed to be one of the reasons Paris Saint Germain knocked them out of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final round.
Besides the team’s performance, Hansi Flick is said to be the major candidate that might replace the current head coach of the German national team, Joachim Low. The coach will end his deal with the national team this summer.
Flick had said that the German football association has not approached him and he has not decided on his next move ahead of his exit from Bayern this summer.
However, a statement from Bayern Munich this Sunday stressed that negotiation on Hansi Flick’s request is still ongoing and no decision has been reached yet.
The club statement said: “Yesterday (Saturday), FC Bayern head coach Hansi Flick made public his wish to terminate his contract, which runs until June 2023, at the end of the current season.
“Hansi Flick had informed the FC Bayern Munchen AG executive board of this wish during the past week.
“Hansi Flick and FC Bayern had agreed to place the focus on the matches against VfL Wolfsburg, Bayer 04 Leverkusen (20 April) and 1. FSV Mainz 05 (24 April), in order not to disrupt the concentration of the whole club on these three important matches.
“FC Bayern disapproves of the unilateral communications issued by Hansi Flick and will continue talks after the match at Mainz, as agreed.”
