Flick recorded a historic treble with the Bavarians and there is a need for preparations for the 2020/21 season, which has already begun.
The coronavirus pandemic had caused another truncated schedule, making Bayern’s first-round DFB-Pokal match to be pushed back until October. The Bavarian club will therefore play their first competitive match of the new campaign next Friday in match-day 1 of the Bundesliga against Schalke.
Flick further stated that he will assess where the squad at least after the first week of training. Although the future of Thiago Alcantara remains uncertain, the tactician is till having rhe Spaniard, who has been linked to Liverpool in his plans.
Bayern Munich will replace Coutinho and Perisic
He also maintained certainty that Bayern will find a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, Alvaro Odriozola, and Ivan Perisic who had completed their loan stints with the club.
“I first want to wait and see the squad I’ll have at my disposal and then see what new line of approach we take.”
The manager further revealed that he’s in “close communication” with sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic on getting those positions filled with quality players.
Bayern wants to extend David Alaba’s contract
Meanwhile, Bayern is also still working on a contract extension for David Alaba right now.
With the treble won last season, Bayern has not enough time for celebrations as they have to prepare for a new season. With the focus now fully on this season’s goals, Flick said the team is motivated as before to win.
“We achieved the goals that we wanted to achieve. We also celebrated — but now that’s over. Now we have to see that we focus on our new goals.
“I don’t think my team has problems with motivation. The players who play for FC Bayern Munich — they want success, they also want to confirm their success. Sure, at Bayern Munich you always want to be champion. We want to secure the next championship. But this year will be damned hard.”
