Former Liverpool and Manchester City striker, Mario Balotelli is about to return to England after being linked with Championship club, Barnsley.

The Italian won the Premier League with Manchester City in 2012 after three Serie A titles with Inter Milan. After spells with Liverpool, AC Milan, Marseille, and Brescia, he is now a free agent.

Balotelli has always created one controversy or the other in every club he has ever been to. He was frozen out at Brescia as a free agent at the end of last season.

According to the latest reports, Barnsley has inquired into signing the former Italy striker. Balotelli is currently clubless. His home club had to terminate his contract after missing training sessions in June and July.

Sky Sports reports that there have been conversations between Balotelli’s representatives and Barnsley’s co-chairmen Chien Lee and Paul Conway, but talks have not reached an advanced stage.

In a bid to maintain his fitness, the former Italy striker has been training with Serie D side Franciacorta.

It could be recalled that Balotelli left England to return to Italy in 2015, and joined AC Milan. He was recently linked with a move to Barnsley’s Sky Bet Championship rivals Watford.

It could be recalled that the 30-year-old was also offered a year contract by Genoa, with an option for an additional year. But nothing has been heard further after the offer.

He has scored 52 goals in 141 Serie A games. His return was high during his stint with Marseille, scoring 41 goals in 76 appearances.

In the Premier League, Baloteli scored 21 goals in 70 games.
