Barcelona are said to have beaten Chelsea to the signing of Sevilla’s 23-year-old French international Jules Kounde.
Gerard Romero, a well-known Spanish journalist, claimed that the battle to sign Jules Kounde has taken a shocking new turn. Heavyweights in La Liga Barcelona have intercepted Chelsea’s pursuit of the 23-year-old French international after reaching a tentative agreement with Sevilla and the player.
The main topics of conversation throughout the 2022 summer transfer window have been Chelsea and Barcelona. The Catalan titans had to wait for the economic levers to be pulled before making their movements in the market, but the majority of the major players finished their business early.
Jules Kounde was snatched away by Barcelona from Chelsea beneath their noses, much like they did with Raphinha earlier this summer, despite all the misgivings and skepticism.
A few days ago, the Catalans seemed to be losing hope of signing the Frenchman. However, as the second economic lever was pulled, they were propelled into action, with director Mateu Alemany apparently using his magic to close the transaction.
Kounde spent three outstanding seasons at Sevilla before becoming one of the top defenders in La Liga. The 23-year-old, who has played 133 times for the Andalusian club, has also made a name for himself with the French national squad and is most likely to be traveling to Qatar for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Barcelona and Chelsea, who are both desperate to add a center-back this summer, have taken notice of Kounde’s accomplishments for Sevilla. Both teams have already added one central defender, but Andreas Christensen, who joined Barcelona via a Bosman deal, must be replaced by the Blues.
Cesar Azpilicueta’s connections to Barcelona will also have alarmed Chelsea; Thomas Tuchel recently expressed his displeasure in an interview.
Gerard Romero claimed that the Catalan giants have beaten the west London club to the signing of Kounde, which might cause the Chelsea manager greater annoyance.
The 23-year-old was reportedly close to becoming Chelsea’s third summer acquisition, according to recent sources. Romero, though, claimed that Kounde’s trade has now been agreed upon in principle between Barcelona and Sevilla.
Barcelona’s recruitment this summer as started paying off as Barça defeated Real Madrid 1-0 in their preseason match, courtesy of goal from the club’s new signing Raphinha. And it might get much better because the club, according to Gerard Romero, plans to announce the signing of Kounde soonest.
