Barcelona rejected a €100m bid for Dutch midfield sensation Frenkie de Jong as they considered the player key to the squad.

Frenkie de Jong was a subject of transfer interest by different clubs with Manchester United leading the race for the player last summer.

De Jong is one of Barcelona’s most important players and is seen as a key part of the club’s future. He is also a very popular player with fans.

Barcelona are in a difficult financial position and need to sell players in order to reduce their wage bill. However, they are not willing to sell De Jong on the cheap. They believe that he is worth more than €100m and will only sell him if they receive a top offer.

A quote by Barcelona president Joan Laporta, as shared by Fabrizio Romano, reveals Barcelona rejected a whooping €100m offer for Frenkie de Jong.

Barça president Laporta: “We had the opportunity to sell Frenkie de Jong for €100m”.

“We didn’t want to accept the proposal in order not to lose part of our capacity as Frenkie is key player”.

It is unclear whether Manchester United will return with a new offer for De Jong this summer. They have already signed Casemiro from Real Madrid, but they may still be looking to strengthen their midfield.

De Jong will be a boost for the Barcelona if he continues his career with the club. He is a world-class player and will be essential to Barcelona’s success in the years to come.
