Barcelona has raised £86m from the sale of Barca studios to enable the club to register players before their opening clash with Rayo Vallecano. The club’s face-off with La Liga has continued with most of the club’s new signings yet to be registered.
Barcelona have taken a last-minute approach to settle their collision with La Liga to enable the club to register their new signings. The club has officially confirmed the sale of Barca studios to raise more funds to register their new signings. They have reportedly raised £86m from the deal.
A statement released by Barcelona President Joan Laporta has confirmed the sale, saying that the decision is in line with Barcelona General Assembly’s resolution on October 23 of last year and that the deal complements the agreement reached with Socios.com to boost the club’s NFT strategy.
Barcelona is selling 24.5% of the Barca Studios to Ophehus Media and will raise £86m from the deal. It is still unclear whether the sum will be enough to register Barcelona’s new signings.
According to Sky SkySport, the Blaugrana may register some of their new signings but will not be able to register all. Orpheus Media specializes in digital content and is owned by Jaume Roures.
Barcelona have spent heavily in the 2022 transfer window, bringing major signings from major leagues in Europe. Among their top signings this summer are Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich, Raphinha from Leeds, and Yules Kounde from Sevilla. Franck Jessie and Andreas Christensen arrived as free agents.
Barcelona have also renewed the contracts of Ousmane Dembele and Sergio Roberto. All these players are affected by Barcelona’s face-off with La Liga after overspending on the transfer market with mounting debts.
The debt profile of the Catalan club reportedly stands at over £1b, but they have spent a whopping £143m to bring in new players into the team this summer.
This has brought the Spanish giants into loggerheads with La Liga. The Spanish football governing body restricted them from registering their new signings: the likes of Lewandowski, Ousmane Dembele, Raphinha, Kounde, and Sergio Roberto, may not feature in Barcelona’s 2023 La Liga opener against Rayo Vallecano later tonight, August 13, at 20:00.
Addressing the deadlock, Barcelona President Joan Laporta has stated that they have fulfilled all the requirements to register their new signings; that they are awaiting a decision from La Liga to proceed with the registration.
In contrast, sources close to the La Liga giants have revealed that the club is yet to meet the financial obligations demanded by La Liga and may not be able to register most of the players before La Liga starts.
