Barcelona president Joan Laporta has broken his silence on reports linking the club to a move for Erling Haaland.

Haaland, 23, has been a top target for European clubs despite recently switching to Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund.

Known for their eye for top youngsters, Real Madrid and Barcelona have been linked to Erling Haaland.

On March 3, 2024, Erling Haaland’s agent Rafaela Pimenta stoked a conversation on Erling Haaland’s future when he said Real Madrid is a ‘dreamland’ for young players.

While Real Madrid have been heavily zoomed into the picture of clubs interested in a move for Erling Haaland, Barcelona is also said to be in the fray to sign the player.

In February 2024, reports from Spanish outlets claim Barcelona sporting director Deco met with Erling Haaland’s agent Rafaela Pimenta.

While details of what transpired between Deco and Rafaela Pimenta could not be accessed, it was widely speculated the pair must have been in talks for a potential move from Barcelona for Erling Haaland.

Barcelona are said to be strong admirers of Erling Haaland and won’t hesitate to make a move for the player. However, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has quashed the possibility of such a move happening this summer.

In a quote shared by Fabrizio Romano, Laporta confirmed Barcelona are not making any big signings this summer in light of the club’s precarious financial situation.

Away from the club’s financial quagmire, the football administrator added the club is contented with the composition of the Culers as it stands and would not want to distort the dressing room by bringing in a big signing.

“We don’t need any big signing. There will be movements but I don’t anticipate big ones, just team players”.

“Our priority is to trust the team we have right now, we don’t want to sign players who could distort our harmony”, told MD

Recall Laporta aimed a dig on Real Madrid’s move to sign Kylian Mbappe, insisting it will bring problems to the Real Madrid dressing room, as per the player’s wage offer and competition for roles in the squad.

He apparently projected similar argument as he quashed reports that Barcelona would move for Haaland this summer

Erling Haaland has contract with Manchester City until 2027 but has a clause in his contract that will make him affordable to clubs outside England.

According to Goal, the clause was inserted by his agent Rafaela Pimenta, and is currently active as it was set to be triggered in 2024.
