Barcelona is considering a lawsuit over Atletico Madrid’s loan of French forward Antoine Griezmann with the Blaugrana contending that Griezmann is already a long-term member of the Atleti roster.
In the summer of 2021, Barcelona agreed to a two-year loan of Griezmann to Atletico Madrid with an option to purchase the player for €40 million should certain criteria be met.
Due to the fact that those prerequisites are stretched out over two years, Barcelona believes they have been met, contrary to Atletico Madrid’s belief, which is why they have proposed filing a lawsuit.
Griezmann’s permanent contract with the Blaugrana, in Barca’s opinion, has expired, and they are entitled to immediate payment of €40 million.
What Does Barcelona Want From Griezmann?
According to sources within Barcelona, the deal was a one-year plus one-year arrangement whereby Atletico Madrid would be required to purchase Griezmann permanently if he featured in 50% of the matches during his first year.
Atletico Madrid would automatically extend the player’s loan into the second year of the loan deal if that didn’t happen.
Barcelona believed that the conditions had been met and that they were entitled to a €40 million payment from Atletico Madrid as a result of Griezmann appearing in 50% of that team’s games last season.
They no longer care when Griezmann enters the game as a substitute since Atletico Madrid has been doing so to adhere to the terms of their loan arrangement and avoid having to pay for him outrightly.
The requirement to buy has not been fulfilled, as predicted, according to Atletico Madrid, who also claim that the obligation to buy is only activated if the Frenchman participates in 50% of games throughout each of the two seasons, not just the first.
According to certain reports, Griezmann’s representatives are trying to find a solution so that he may play more games this season. Griezmann is reportedly upset about the situation.

Antoine Griezmann Returned To Atletico Madrid From Barcelona
Antoine Griezmann unexpectedly returned to Atlético Madrid from Barcelona on a season-long loan with a €40 million (£34.4 million) option for a permanent transfer.
The €120 million deal that saw the France international leave Atlético for Barcelona in 2019 fell short of expectations. For the Catalan club, he only managed to score 22 goals in 74 La Liga appearances.
Joo Felix had been considered as part of a trade, but Barcelona chose to sign Luuk de Jong from Sevilla for a season-long loan with the possibility of a permanent transfer.
Griezmann joined Atlético from Real Sociedad and enjoyed five great seasons there. His goal return was far better than at Camp Nou, with 94 goals in 180 league appearances.
