Barcelona have issued a statement on the injury situation of Ansu Fati ahead of their crunch Copa Del Rey match against Real Madrid.
In a statement issued on the club’s social media handle, Ansu Fati may likely be unavailable for the Blaugrana in their next La Liga fixture, including a crunch Copa Del Rey last-four tie against Real Madrid on March 2.
The statement confirmed Ansu Fati picked up an injury at Barcelona training ground. Further details on the estimated timeline of return was not revealed.
The statement reads;
“Ansu Fati suffered a left knee contusion during this Afternoon’s training session. He is out and his recovery will determine his availability.”
According to Football Espana, Barcelona had conducted a medical test on Ansu Fati before issuing the statement on his injury situation, but have failed to disclose Ansu Fati’s injury return date.
The LaLiga leaders will travel to take on Almeria in their next LaLiga fixture and are more likely to miss Ansu Fati in the game.
More worrying for Barcelona fans is the crunch Copa Del Rey tie, pitting the club against arch-rivals, Real Madrid.
The Catalans brace up for another El-Clasico in the midweek on 2nd March as they prepare to hit Santiago Bernabeu for the first leg of the Copa Del Rey semifinal.
Despite losing to the defending champions in LaLiga this season, Barcelona took revenge of the defeat in the Spanish Super Cup tie this year in Saudi Arabia, where they spanked Los Blancos with three unreplied goals to lift the trophy.
After the La Liga loss, they have also fought back to the summit of the LaLiga table and are now 9 points and 9 goals ahead of the reigning European and LaLiga champions after 22 La Liga matches.
Hence, the tie against Carlo Ancelotti-led team will be a blockbuster with Real Madrid expected to make a bold statement on the LaLiga hopefuls with nothing short of victory at the Bernabeu.
Ansu Fati will be a big loss for the Catalans in the game if he fails to return to the squad ahead of the game. While Barcelona have shielded his injury return date from the media, there are speculations, Ansu Fati may likely spend two weeks on the sidelines due to the injury and is set to miss the clash.
The Spain international has suffered spells on the sidelines recently in his Barcelona career. He was ruled out for almost a year following a knee surgery and had missed nearly the entirety of the 2020/21 season before returning to the squad.
After his return, Ansu Fati was hit again with another nightmare injury blow, picking a hamstring issue, that left him on the sidelines for 20 weeks.
Now, Barcelona have confirmed his new injury with fans hoping he makes an early return to the club as the team struggles to reclaim their dominance in Spanish and European football.
Fati featured for the club in the Europa League playoffs second-leg at Old Trafford which ended in a defeat.
He has made 31 appearances for the club this season in all competitions, scoring 4 goals and delivering 3 assists.
