Spanish La Liga giants, Barcelona and Real Madrid were humbled by two lowly rated clubs in the league, Getafe and Cádiz, on Saturday, October 17, 2020.

Barcelona‘s first reality check of the season came from Getafe. Ronald Koeman‘s men could not do much with the team as they struggled to get past Getafe’s defense throughout the 90 minutes.

The club’s talisman Lionel Messi came very close to scoring when his shot hit the sidebar. While Antoine Griezmann was also very close to scoring for Barcelona but he decided to fire his shot over the ball at close range.

The first half of the caging match finished without a goal from both ends of the pitch. This remained the reality until towards the 56th mark when Barca’s Frenkie de Jong fouled on Djene Dakonam in the eighteen-yard box. The referee blew for a spot-kick and Getafe’s Jaime Mata buried the kick at the bottom corner of the goalpost to make it 1-0.

Barcelona lost the match with 73 percent of the ball possession while the host only managed 27 percent of the possession. However, Getafe had more shots on target (9), while Barcelona only managed 7 shots on target.

The defeat has left Barcelona in the 9th spot with 7 points in 4 La Liga games. While the win has left Getafe in the 2nd spot with 10 points in 5 La Liga matches.

Barcelona and Real Madrid got punished before El Clasico

Real Madrid players were disappointed with their loss to Cádiz.

The reigning La Liga champions, Real Madrid, got stunned by newly-promoted La Liga side Cádiz. It was so shocking that Zinedine Zidane and his men had to fall in the hands of the lowly rated club at their home ground.

Cádiz who has been out of Spanish La Liga for 14 years, has never defeated Real Madrid in 30 years. The club successfully broke that jinx within the first 16 minutes of their Saturday’s meeting with Madrid.

The golden goal of the match came in the 16th minute from the foot of Anthony Lozano. From that point, Real Madrid tried to fight back but it was not possible.

Madrid’s talisman, Karim Benzema fired at the crossbar and a goal from Madrid’s Luka Jovic was canceled because Benzema was offside. At the end of the 90 minutes, Madrid ended its 15 La Liga games unbeaten run which they started in the 2019-2020 season.

Real Madrid gathered 75 percent of the possession while the visitors only managed 25 but the visitor had more shots on target (5) while Real Madrid only managed 2.

The loss has not affected Real Madrid standing on the league table but has tied them on the same point with Getafe, Cadiz and Granada. Madrid is occupying the first spot with 10 points in 5 games while Cádiz is occupying the 3rd spot with 10 points in 6 games.
