Austin FC continued their blistering start to their second season with a dominating 5-1 victory over visiting Inter Miami CF on Sunday afternoon in the first-ever meeting between the teams.
Sebastian Driussi and Ethan Finlay each scored two goals, and the club continued their torrid start to their second campaign in MLS with a dominating 5-1 victory over visiting Inter Miami CF.
Austin FC (2-0-0, 6 points) carried on from its 5-0 triumph against FC Cincinnati last week, scoring two goals in a four-minute span in the middle of the first half to grab a 2-0 lead.
First, in the 22nd minute, Driussi raced to the back post for a crossing feed off the end line by Diego Fagundez and neatly slotted the ball past Miami goalkeeper Clement Diop.
Then, in the 26th minute, off a set piece situation, Zan Kolmanic fired a deep cross into the box to Cascante, who outjumped a Miami player and scored to Diop’s right.
Driussi was able to cleanly clean up a deflected pass from Fagundez from the second level after a deep run into the area in the 51st minute, extending Austin’s advantage.
Inter Miami (0-1-1, 0 points) finally went on the board two minutes later, as substitute Leonardo Campana converted a Gonzalo Higuain assist, sending the ball into the bottom-right corner past Austin goalkeeper Brad Stuver.
The club have let up their first goal of the season.
Austin and captain Alex Ring stole any momentum Miami gained after Campana’s goal. Austin’s left-footed pass to the far post missed intended target Maxi Urruti but ended up on the head of Ethan Finlay, who scored in the 64th minute to restore the home side’s three-goal lead.
In the 90th minute, Finlay added to the onslaught with his second goal, a rocket into the top-left corner off another Fagundez assist.
Austin FC’s ten goals are the most by a single team in MLS history in the first two games of a season.
Since the start of last season, Inter Miami has lost six of its last seven road games.
Austin FC Winning Streak
The club has been in fantastic form this season; in week one of MLS 2022, they blasted Cincinnati 5-0, and they will look to replicate the feat in week two against Inter Miami, who were unable to score a single goal against Chicago Fire, resulting in a 0-0 draw.
Josh Wolff’s side opened the season on fire, and Cecilio Dominguez’s brace, along with goals from Alexander Ring and Sebastian Driussi, as well as an own goal from Ale Kann, demonstrated that his team is serious about winning the MLS Cup.

Austin FC Owner
From majority owner Anthony Precourt’s clash with Columbus, Ohio, over early attempts to move the Crew to Texas, to the Austin city council’s fight over land for a slick new $260 million stadium, to the eight-game road trip to kick off the 2021 season, few MLS clubs have launched with as much anticipation and hype as Austin FC.
The party began at the first home game, when actor and minority owner Mathew McConaughey stepped on the field in a bright green outfit and led pregame chants while banging a drum. His colorful Austin past includes a late-night arrest in 1999, when he was caught playing the bongos while nude and high at his home.
