The Super Eagles have been the most impressive team in the campaign thus far, winning all three of their group games, scoring six goals and conceding only one, a penalty kick goal.

Austin Eguavoen has been lauded for the team’s outstanding performances in Cameroon.

Despite a lackluster preparation, the former Gent defender has restored the team’s excitement, which is a stark contrast to what fans witnessed prior to the competition.

Eguavoen was brought in a month before the competition to replace Rohr, who was fired after the second round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Rohr was chastised in the last months of his tenure for the Super Eagles’ lackluster performances, which is why Eguavoen is receiving more praise for the work he has done in such a short time.

“There’s no way we are not going to give Gernot Rohr credit because he’s the one who put this team together, Eguavoen said.

“We still inherited a team of about 98% Gernot Rohr together, so there is no way we are going to leave Gernot Rohr out of this.”

“He did a good job assembling these boys, but it’s quite unfortunate what has happened.”

“And if we win the Africa Cup of Nations, it’s for everyone, not just me alone.”

Alex Iwobi’s Response to The Eagles Recent Form

“I’m not too sure anything has changed playing under Eguavoen, but I feel the team is hungrier under him now,” the Everton forward told PUNCH Sports Extra.

“We are more of a family now on and off the pitch. We are one big family now.”

“We’re all pleased to have won our first three games,” Iwobi added.

“These victories show that we are ready for any opponent and it is a good signal we are sending out there to any team that wants to play Nigeria. We’re doing well, but we must maintain our consistency.“

We still have to remain focus and humble there are still more tough games to be played and we will keep doing our country proud.

Despite not playing in his preferred No.10 position, the former Arsenal forward has committed to give his all for the squad.

“The No.10 role is my favourite position, however, I’m happy to play in any position the coach wants me to play in.”

“I will give my best to the team. I don’t really mind playing out on the wings”.

Nigeria’s quest for a fourth continental trophy will continue on Sunday when they play their second-round match.
