Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has put his name in the history book of the club to be part of players that have reached 50 Premier League goals for the club.

He is now the faster among the six players in Premier League history to have done that for the Gunners.  The Gabonese reached the mark against Norwich City on Wednesday night. The 4-0 win moved the Gunners seventh on the log with nine points separating them from the last Champions League place.

Aubumeyang became the club’s quickest player to reach the mark in the modern era on his 79th appearance. He opened the goals account against the relegation strugglers when he robbed goalkeeper Tim Krul off the ball and tapped into an unguarded net.

He late made an assist for the second goal delivering a final pass for former Captain  Granit Xhaka, who fired past the Dutchman from a testing angle to make it 2-0.

The feat means that he has knocked off legendary figures such as Thierry Henry and Ian Wright, who had to play 87 and 101 games respectively to reach the mark in the red of Arsenal with only five players being quicker to the 50-goal mark in the history of the Premier League.

Henry, who enjoyed success under former manager, Arsène Wenger, is the club’s all-time leading scorer with 228 goals in all competitions.

Andy Cole, an Arsenal youth product,  who went on to achieve fame at Newcastle and Manchester United, scored 50  in 65 games. He was one fewer than Alan Shearer and three quicker than another former Man Utd striker,  Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Liverpool’s star Mohamed Salah and former striker Fernando Torres both reached their 50 in 72 matches.

After joining Arsenal fro Borussia Dortmund in January 2018 for a fee in the region of £56 million ($70m), Aubumeyang scored on his debut in the Premier League against Everton in a 5-1 home win.

He would later register his name on the scoring sheet after two blank outings and then went on a run of five goals in four games. He completed the season with ten goals in 13 appearances. The Gabonese has scored 16 goals in all competitions so far.

In his first full season in England, the Gabonese international proved to be equally successful as he notched 22 goals in 36 outings, which won him the golden boot. Despite suffering indifferent form this season, Aubameyang has scored 18 in 30 this term.
