The manager of Arsenal football club, Mikel Arteta has insisted that the captain of the club, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is at the right place at the right time. The manager stated this in reaction to questions about the future of the 31-year-old Gabon international.

Aubameyang has been a topic of discussion at many fora especially towards the end of the 2019-2020 season. The big question has been, would he remain at the club beyond June 2021 when his current contract with the club is expected to expire?

This question has been asked in almost every post and pre-match conferences involving Mikel Arteta. The captain is always dragged to the argument whenever the media have the opportunity to have a chat with him. But no clear-cut answer has been provided yet, giving the club’s fans more reasons to be worried that they might lose their best player this summer.

Aubameyang is convinced to stay at Arsenal

The manager of Arsenal football club with the Community Shield the club won on Saturday.

When the argument of whether Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would renew his contract or not came up after Arsenal beat Liverpool on penalties to win the club’s 16th Community Shield on Saturday, August 29, 2020, Mike Arteta stressed that he has done his job on him as a manager. The Spanish tactician also stressed that he has succeeded in convincing him to stay but it is left to him to sign the contract.

“My job is to try to convince him he’s at the right place at the right time,” Arteta told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“I think we got that and then we have to make the paperwork and that takes a bit of time.”

Aubameyang is in the right place?

Since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund in 2018, he has shown that he has come to the club to make a name for himself. He did that in an incredible fashion and became the joint top-scorer in the Premier League for the 2018-2019 season. Unfortunately for him, there was no trophy to show for his impact on the club.

He resumed the 2019-2020 season with the same hunger but his effort to lift the club to glory seemed not enough in the first half of the just-concluded season. This led to the sacking of the former manager of the club Unai Emery and the appointment of Mikel Arteta.

The young Spanish tactician slowly and steadily changed the fortunes of the club and made them titles contenders again. They found their way to the FA Cup final against Chelsea and defeated them to land their first title in three years.

On Saturday, they faced Liverpool in the FA Community Shield, as least expected, Aubameyang led his teammates to win the title in a penalty shootout. He scored the first goal for Arsenal and scored the winning penalty to become the second Arsenal’s player to score 5 goals at the Wembley Stadium. The first player to achieve such a feat was Alexis Sanchez.

Indeed, his 71 goals and his 15 assists in 110 appearances for Arsenal are not in vain as he has won two trophies – FA Cup and Community Shield within two full seasons. The fact that Arsenal was not winning titles was one of the reasons he wanted to leave the club. Now that he has started helping the club to win titles under Arteta, surely, Aubameyang is at the right place at the right time.
