Arsenal reliable left-back Kieran Tierney is close to completing a shock loan move to Real Sociedad in La Liga.

Tierney is set to exit Emirates and join the La Liga side Real Sociedad, on loan deal for the rest of the league season.

This move comes as the 26-year-old Scottish has lost his place in the pecking order at the Emirates.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported this morning, August 25 that Real Sociedad are close to reaching an agreement with Arsenal for a season-long loan deal to secure the services of Kieran Tierney.

The agreement does not provide an option to purchase, but it does involve the La Liga team covering the full wages of the Scotland international and paying a loan fee to the Gunners.

If the final details of the deal are agreed upon, Tierney could travel to Spain and undergo a medical over the weekend, even though the contract has not been signed yet.

Newcastle and his old club Celtic, were the top choices for Tierney’s next destination. However, he preferred Real Sociedad because he wanted to have consistent playing time and the opportunity to compete in the Champions League.

It is worth noting that Tierney has not made any appearances in the Premier League this season. His most recent start was on May 14th in a 3-0 defeat against Brighton.

He made his only appearance this season during the FA Community Shield victory against Manchester City. He came on as a substitute for the injured Jurrein Timber.

Since he arrived in 2019, he has only made a total of 124 appearances for the Gunners as his continuous impact has been overshadowed by injury stints.

Tierney currently ranks behind Oleksandr Zinchenko, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and the injured Timber in the left-back pecking order.

Meanwhile, the Gunners manager Mikel Arteta has recently stated that Tierney is part of his plans for this season. But it now seems likely that the Scottish player will be leaving the North London club.

Multiple reports revealed that Arsenal had a preference to permanently part ways with Tierney, but Socidead had only considered the possibility of taking the former Celtic left-back on loan.

Having said that, the La Liga club have agreed to fully cover Tierney’s wages and will also pay a loan fee as part of their agreement with the Gunners.

However, Arsenal remain optimistic and hope that the final agreement includes a requirement for Sociedad to make the arrangement permanent before the end of the season.

    What’s next for Tierney?

As the weekend approaches and Arsenal prepare for their match against Fulham, Tierney may bid the club farewell as he’s potentially joining Real Sociedad.

However, this deal is still being finalized and is dependent on a successful medical evaluation.

If everything goes well, Tierney could be seen wearing Real Sociedad’s colors after the international break when the club travels to the Santiago Bernabeu to lock horns against Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid.
