Arsenal football club is on the verge of losing their captain and the current highest goalscorer of the club, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if nothing concrete is placed on the table for the Gabonese striker soonest. The contract of the 30-year-old striker will expire in June 2021 and no talks yet on whether the contract will be extended or not.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who is unarguably the best player in Arsenal since last season has remained an indispensable figure at the club since he joined them in 2018 from Borussia Dortmund. In the 2018-2019 season, he was the joint highest goalscorer in the Premier League with no title to show for it. This season, he is one of the highest goals scorers in the league and no hope of winning any title.

The saddest part of all is that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang‘s biggest dream right now is to return to the Champions League which he never missed while playing for German Bundesliga side, Dortmund. Unfortunately for him, Arsenal may not make it to the prestigious tournament next season again. The club is currently occupying the 8th position on the league table with 40 points.

They have to win 9 matches out of the remaining 9 matches for them to have a chance to play in the Champions League next season. Even if the season restart on June 17 as it is being proposed, winning those remaining 9 matches might not still guaranty them a Champions League spot unless the clubs ahead of them lose at least 7 of their 9 matches.

A realistic look at this permutation showed a great impossibility which could force Aubameyang to use the exit to a club that can guaranty him Champions League football. According to an ESPN report, no deal has been placed on the striker’s table yet.

In the midst of this uncertainty, Chelsea Football Club is reportedly monitoring the situation in order to wade in and grab the striker this summer; or wait until 2021 with the hope that Arsenal will not renew his contract until June, and sign him as a free agent.

As it stands, if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang should leave Arsenal either in a big-money transfer or as a free agent, it won’t be solely his fault since the gunners have not dropped any deal for him to “accept or reject”.
