Pep Guardiola’s side’s victory over Tottenham Hotspur saw them ascend to the summit of the log, moving to 88 points from 37 matches, 2 points better than Arsenal (86) going into the final matchday of the season.

This indicated that Manchester City had the edge going into the final day of the term, and they ultimately did the job on the final matchday of the 2023/24 campaign, defeating West Ham United 3-1.

Phil Foden netted a brace to put the Cityzens in a comfortable position, scoring in the 2nd and 18th minute before Mohamed Kudus halved the deficit for the Hammers 3 minutes before the break.

Rodri confirmed the victory on the day for Pep Guardiola’s side, scoring a minute before the hour mark.

Arsenal also came back from behind to defeat Everton 2-1, but it was insufficient to hand them the title.

Idrissa Gana Gueye had poked Sean Dyche’s side ahead in the 40th minute, however, Takehiro Tomiyasu, equalized for the Gunners 3 minutes later.

Kai Havertz scored a late winner in the 89th minute, but as earlier indicated, it wasn’t enough to see Arsenal end the campaign as champions.

Manchester City ended the season with 91 points from 38 matches, while the Gunners culminated the campaign with 89 points from 38 games.

Hard Pill To Swallow For Arsenal Fans

Definitely, it was a hard pill to swallow for Arsenal fans, as they watched their side finish as runners-up for the second season in a row.

Mikel Arteta’s side threw away a huge lead in the 2022/23 season, allowing Manchester City to come from behind to snatch the league title.

They were also about 8 points better than Pep Guardiola’s side at some point this campaign, with the team already harboring hopes of winning the league crown.

Ultimately, Manchester City secured historic 4th unprecedented league title in a row, with the Gunners’ 2-decade wait for the Premier League title continuing.

Hopefully, there were no other casualties due to the outcome of matches on the final matchday of the 2023/24 season.

Football is a sport that understandably controls the emotions of many, however, it must be noted that it is still a game expected to bring excitement, but not result in the death of anyone.
