The Gunners produced a stunning and clinical display to wallop Crystal Palace 4-1 on Sunday at the Emirates to inch close to the Premier League title and heap pressure on Manchester City.

Martinelli opened the scoring for the Gunners in the 28th minute before Bukayo Saka doubled the lead in the 43rd minute.

Xhaka made it 3-0 in the 55th minute before Schlupp put one back for the visitors to restore comeback hopes. Bukayo Saka bagged his brace to bury the game and seal victory for Arsenal after the final whistle.

The victory has seen the Gunners extend the lead on the Premier League table. They are now 8 points above rivals Manchester City who have played one game less.

Manchester City have won the Premier League title six times since 2011

After 28 games with 10 matches left to the end of the season, it is safe to say the Gunners are just a few miles away from being crowned Premier champions for the first time since the 2003/04 football season when they won the league as invincibles with 90 points, winning 26 games, drawing 13, and losing none.

Manchester City still in the Premier League title race

Unarguably, the 2022/23 Premier League title race has narrowed down to a two-horse race between the Gunners and Manchester City.

The serial Premier League champions are actively in a race with 11 matches against Arsenal’s 10 matches before the end of the season.

City will hope to close the point gap on Arsenal when they host Liverpool at Etihad in their next game after the international break.

Currently, the Gunners sit top of the Premier League table with 69 points from 28 games; 22 wins, 3 wins, and 3 draws.

Manchester City sit second on the table with 61 points from 27 games; 19 wins, 4 draws, and 4 losses.

Arsenal last won the Premier League in 2003/04 season

Chances are Manchester City will be totally out of the race if they stumble in another game while Arsenal continue in their fine form.

As things stand, Manchester City need Arsenal to drop five points – a loss and a draw to rub shoulders with the Premier League title hopefuls.

Arsenal play Leeds, Liverpool, West Ham, and Southampton before traveling to take on Manchester City.

Manchester City play Liverpool, Southampton, and Brighton, before hosting Arsenal at Etihad.

If both continue on their current winning streak, the Premier League title race may likely be decided on the crunch tie between the two rivals.

Meanwhile, Arsenal will now focus on the Premier League title while Manchester City will be eyeing a double silverware – the Champions League and Premier League trophies.

Altered Premier League fixtures as announced by the Premier League puts Manchester City at a slight disadvantage with eight games lined up for the month, while Arsenal have five matches for the month.

From the foregoing, Arsenal are closer to their first Premier League title than ever and are more likely to win the trophy than Manchester City.
