Arsenal celebrity fan Piers Morgan has changed his mind about Mikel Arteta after the Gunners’ brilliant Premier League start. Arteta’s team has grabbed two Premier League wins in two matches, scoring 6 goals and conceding only 2.
A top celebrity Arsenal fan and a staunch critic of Mikel Arteta has changed his mind about the approach and tactics of the Spaniard at the Emirates. Piers Morgan has been one of the most vocal critics of Mikel Arteta and his style at Arsenal after the Gunners had a disappointing Premier League campaign last season.
Morgan was on the neck of the Spaniard last season when the Gunners struggled to have their feet in the Premier League. Morgan flared up when Arsenal lost to Newcastle, leaving their hopes of a top-four finish on a knife edge. Morgan called for the sack of Arteta after their performance worsened.
The London-based club still hoped to make it to the top 4 despite the loss to Newcastle. However, everything fell apart when Mikel Arteta clashed with Antonio Conte’s Tottenham, a match referred to as the ultimate decider of who would join Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea in the 2022-2023 Champions League.
Piers Morgan fell out with the Spaniard when he lost the match to Tottenham. The Gunners were smashed 3-0 by Tottenham. Piers Morgan called for Arteta to be relieved of his managerial job at the Emirates then.
Another point of contention between the broadcaster and Mikel Arteta was the sale of Pierre Emerick Aubamenyang to Barcelona. At every goal Aubamenyang scored for the Catalan club, Morgan hit back at Arteta, decrying his naive and misinformed transfer policies.
“Aubamenyang has been the world’s most lethal goal machine since joining Barcelona… and with every goal he scores, he makes Arteta look more absurd for giving him away”, the media personality said.
Morgan bit hard when Mikel Arteta’s contract with the Gunners was renewed with additional bonuses despite a poor outing with the club. The broadcaster extended his criticism to the Arsenal management, attacking them for renewing his contract when hehas achieved nothing at the club.
“Arteta should be fired”, he said. “Instead he’s been given a new deal and massive pay rise. For abject failure. Utterly ridiculous.”
Despite his strong opposition to Mikel Arteta last season, Piers appears to have reversed his stand on Mikel Arteta as the 2022-2023 Premier League resumed. In a post on his Twitter Handle, he gave a thumbs up to Arteta, posting a picture of the Gunners’ manager with the caption, “trusting the process.” This underscores his change of mind about the prospects of the club under the tutelage of Mikel Arteta.
Meanwhile, Arteta has stunned critics after a great start to the 2022-2023 Premier League season. Arsenal has played two matches so far and has amassed a maximum of six points. The Gunners opened their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace. They also cruised easily to win against Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium.
New signing Gabriel Jesus has been phenomenal for the new Arsenal squad. The former Manchester City attacking midfielder has been on top form for the Gunners banging goals and delivering assists as well.
Obviously, Arteta has improved hugely on the squad with his new signings. However, it is a risky pick to overestimate Arteta and his Arsenal squad with just two matches into the season
