Arsenal and Liverpool played out a gripping 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium, leaving both teams with mixed emotions.
The Premier League title hopefuls had to share the spoils, despite creating numerous scoring opportunities.
Arsenal took the lead twice with goals from Bukayo Saka and Mikel Merino, but Liverpool responded each time with goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah.
The Gunners were missing captain Martin Odegaard, William Saliba, and Riccardo Calafiori.
However, despite Gabriel Jesus scoring in stoppage time, the goal was disallowed by referee Anthony Taylor due to a foul by Kai Havertz.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta declared his team “alive” in the title race, but expressed disappointment at dropping crucial points.
When Arteta was asked about his team’s disallowed goal at the post-match press conference, the Gunners boss was tight-lipped. The Arsenal boss replied: “I prefer not to comment.”
However, Arteta praised his team’s dominant performance, citing their determination and efficiency.
He said: ” Really disappointing not to win it because when you look at the chances, we should have won the game.”
“The team played so well, we were dominant and very determined.”
On Arsenal’s performance, Arteta commented: “Very proud of the team, especially with the situation we are going through at the moment – probably you cannot imagine.”
“I think in the first half it was total domination, we were really good, really dominant, really efficient and the result probably should have been bigger.”
Arne Slot Gave His Verdict On Arsenal Vs Liverpool match
Liverpool manager Arne Slot conceded that Arsenal were the better team, deserving of a win.
Arne Slot said: “Eventful, exciting. In my opinion, Arsenal were the first team better us. They deserved to be one up at half time.”
Slot acknowledged his team’s resilience, stating, “Both teams kept going for a result, making it an exciting match.”
Roy Keane Gave Verdict On Arsenal’s Performance
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane, expressed his concerns about Arteta’s Arsenal team’s mentality in competing against Manchester City.
He noted that Arsenal tend to sit back and settle for a lead instead of pushing for more goals, even when in a winning position.
He told Sky Sport: “I’m starting to worry about this Arsenal mentality. “Now you’re 2-1 up, and you’ve still got to try and win the game.”
Keane urged Arsenal to be more aggressive and go for the kill, rather than being content with a narrow lead.
“But there’s elements of Arsenal now and it’s happened most of the season when they get themselves in front.”
“Never mind excuses about injuries or being down to 10 men, they all seem to sit back in as if we’ll settle for 2-1, we’ll try and get something on the set piece instead of going, go and get the third goal because Liverpool were there for the taking of wanted to go for it.”
Arsenal and Liverpool draw leaves both teams with unfinished business in the Premier League title chase.
Manchester City asserted their dominance with a 1-0 victory over Southampton, propelling them to the top of the Premier League standings.
Liverpool now sit one point behind City after their 2-2 draw, while Arsenal currently hold the third spot with 18 points.
