Despite still recovering from the injury, Carlo Ancelotti included the ex-Chelsea star in the squad for the El-Clasico and later brought on the player from the bench.

He was also used in Real Madrid’s subsequent La Liga games against Elche and Sevilla but was masked up to protect the wound.

Rudiger featured in Real Madrid’s Champions League loss against RB Leipzig in Germany, and it has been confirmed that the wound has not completely healed.

During the pre-match press conference, a eyeball colored with blood and deeply red could be spotted, indicating that he is still battling to heal.

The stitches were also visible, but the defender was in good spirits ready for the Champions League clash.

Rudiger stated that he is very happy at Real Madrid, and is satisfied with his performance so far in the team.

“I’m satisfied with my performances”, he affirmed. “I feel I’m on a good run, I don’t have to play every game because we have a large squad with a lot of quality.

“I feel I’m a 10 out of 10. I’m surprised at how quickly I’ve adapted. I had the help of [Toni] Kroos and [David] Alaba.

“I’m very happy. As I said in my presentation, I’m going to give 100 per cent for this club,” Rudiger said.
