The manager of Tottenham Hotspur, Antonio Conte has admitted that the level at the Premier League club is not so high after the team suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Mura.

Mura is a Slovenian football team that was established in 2012. They are currently sitting on the 5th spot on the Slovenian PrvaLiga table after recording 4 defeats, 7 draws, and 5 wins so far this season.

Hence, when Tottenham Hotspur traveled to Slovenia to play the club in a Europa Conference League group stage match, it was expected that the Premier League club would beat Mura especially now that Spurs are being coached by Antonio Conte.

Unfortunately for Tottenham Hotspur, Mura scored as early as the 11th minute of the match, thanks to Tomi Horvat’s strike. Things got bad for Spurs when Ryan Sessegnon was shown the red card in the 31st minute.

Despite playing with 10 men, coach Antonio Conte decided to keep his attacking-minded players on the pitch including Harry Kane, and even threw in more attacking-minded players – Heung-Min Son and Lucas Moura in the second half.

The decision paid off when Kane scored the equalizer in the 72nd minute. But Antonio Conte was left disappointed when Mura’s Amadej Marosa scored the winner in injury time.

The humiliating defeat came three weeks after Antonio Conte who is regarded as a serial winner replaced coach, Nuno Espirito Santo. Conte was seen as a coach who could lift Tottenham Hotspur to the top four in the Premier League. Hence, it was a big blow when his team could not defeat a team with a UEFA coefficient ranking of 341.

After the 2-1 defeat at the hands of lowly rated Mura, Conte admitted that he now understands how difficult the situation at Tottenham Hotspur is.

“After three weeks I am starting to understand the situation”, Antonio Conte added. It is not simple,” the Italian tactician said. “At this moment the level at Tottenham is not so high.

“I must be honest and tell you that after three-and-a-half weeks, I am starting to understand the situation. I can tell you that the situation is not simple. It is not simple because at this moment for sure the level of Tottenham is not so high.

“There is an important gap to the top teams in England. Of this, we must not be scared. I am here to work, here to improve the situation. I know that at this moment we need to have patience, time and I am here because I know there are problems to solve.

“After three-and-a-half weeks, I am happy to stay here but at the same time, I must be honest and tell you we need to work a lot to improve the quality of the [current] squad. We are Tottenham and Tottenham at this moment, there is an important gap.

“If someone thinks that a new coach arrives and Conte won in the past and then I am a magician. But the only magic I can do is to work. To bring work and work to improve, to bring my methods, my ideas of football. But we have to understand that we need time.

“I want to be honest that we need to work a lot to improve the situation. We need time and patience. I don’t know what happens in the future but I am here because I am happy to stay here, to work for Tottenham.”

The defeat at the hands of Mura on Thursday, November 25, has taken Tottenham Hotspur to the second spot in Europa Conference League Group G. They currently have 7 points in 5 games, four points below first placed Rennes, and on equal points with 3rd placed Vitesse.

This means that Tottenham Hotspur are condemned to beat Rennes when the French side visits the Premier League side on December 9, 2021. A defeat at the hands of Rennes could end Tottenham Hotspur’s hope of progressing to the next round of the competition.

“We have a lot of desire to work but you can work, work, work, work. But you can push a car at maximum level and sometimes it is not enough to be competitive”, Antonio Conte said.

“This road could be one meter or 100 meters, I am not scared, I am ready to go and do this path. But at the same time, I want to be very honest, we have to work a lot and improve in many, many aspects.

“We have to do better at many, many things. It is important in football to have a vision. Where are you now? And what do you want in the future? I am here to help the club in this aspect.

“The club is outstanding outside, to create a stadium but now we start from behind.

“It is important to know this because I am not a magician and after three weeks I have found players that want to work and have great commitment but sometimes it is not enough.”
