The manager of Tottenham Hotspur, Antonio Conte said he felt the blood of Arsenal, Wolves, and Manchester United before his team took on Aston Villa on Saturday evening, April 9, 2022.

On the said date, Tottenham Hotspur traveled to Villa Park to take on Aston Villa and gave their host a resounding defeat.

Antonio Conte’s boys were so sound in the game that they took the lead in the 3rd minute thanks to a strike from Heung-Min Son.

Tottenham Hotspur made things more complicated for Aston Villa as Dejan Kulusevski made it a two-goal lead in the 50th minute of the second half.

When Aston Villa thought had seen the worst, Heung-Min Son scored his second goal in the 66th minute. The winger made it 4-0 for Tottenham in the 71st minute.

Heung-Min Son’s hat-trick took his Premier League goals tally for this season to 17 goals, three goals behind the league’s current highest goalscorer, Mohamed Salah.

However, that is not the good news for Tottenham Hotspur, the good news is that Spurs’ 4-0 win over Aston Villa has given them an edge over the clubs competing with them for the fourth spot.

Before Antonio Conte and his boys took on Steven Gerrard’s men, Tottenham’s competitors for the 4th spot, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Wolves had played their league games.

Unfortunately, the league games involving them ended in defeats. Recall that Brighton defeated Arsenal 2-1 on Saturday, Everton defeated Manchester United 1-0 on the same day and Newcastle United defeated Wolves 1-0 on Friday.

Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton left them on the 5th spot with 54 points in 30 games, three points below 4th placed Tottenham which have played one game more than Arsenal.

On the other hand, Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Everton has left them on the 7th spot on the league table with 51 points in 31 games: while Wolves’ 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United has left them on the 8th spot with 49 points in 32 games.

Realistically, the defeats have ruled out Wolves and Manchester United from the top four race except Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur decide to lose four of their remaining league games.

The fact that Tottenham Hotspur played their game against Aston Villa after their rivals had played and lost excited Antonio Conte to the extent he confessed that it was good that Spurs won after their rival for the 4th spot lost their games.

Conte said: “A strong team needs character and personality to be strong mentally because during a game you can have a period when you suffer because the opponent is pushing you a lot.

“Today, the first half was difficult but we knew this because when playing at Aston Villa away in this stadium with this fantastic atmosphere I don’t think there is one team that wins easy.

“For this reason, I was pleased with the attitude of the players, the composure. They decided to stay strong. And then in the second half, I think we importantly won the game.

“For sure, we have to be more good when there is this type of pressure and try to continue to play. Because every time we had the ball we had chances to score.

“If you have an opposition who plays with high pressure, the space will open to attack. In the second half, we were much better I think because the intensity of Aston Villa was slower.

“It was a great win for us. Especially when you play a game after your rivals for a place in the Champions League – Wolverhampton, Manchester United, and Arsenal – have lost.

“At this moment you start to feel the blood. It is important at this moment not to fail. We are working a lot on the mentality and the players are giving me satisfaction.

“For sure, to see this improvement makes me proud. It gives me great satisfaction. At the same time, I know we have to work on this improvement.

“Because there are not only the tactical, technical and physical aspects but there is the mentality. There is a lot of space for improvement. But today they showed me they have improved this aspect.”
