Anthony Martial might not be able to play any competitive game for Manchester United in the rest of this season according to the coach of the club, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Recall that Anthony Martial played against Kazakhstan during a World Cup qualification between the team and France on March 28, 2021. He was substituted in the 59th minute replaced by Kylian Mbappe.
When he was coming out of the game that ended 0-2 in favor of France, he was seen limping off and snubbed Mbappe on his way out.
After the game, the French football association confirmed that the 25-year-old center-forward had sustained a knee injury and would not be able to play the remaining World Cup qualification match which was against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He had to be transferred back to Manchester United to continue with his recovery process and France went on to win Bosnia and Herzegovina 0-1 without Anthony Martial.
After Manchester United’s 2-1 Premier League win over Brighton on Sunday, April 4, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lamented that the injury Anthony Martial sustained while on international duty with France could keep him out for the rest of the season.
He told the club’s website that the injury looked worse than French FA described it when the striker returned to Manchester United after he sustained the injury.
“Unfortunately he’s sprained his knee with France … losing Anthony for what might be the rest of the season is very disappointing, especially when the reports and signals are from there that it wasn’t [anything] serious, but it looks a bad one, yeah”, Anthony Martial said.
However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said before the game against Brighton that Anthony Martial could be fit enough to return before the season ends.
“He sprained his knee with France and it looks like he’ll be out for a few weeks, definitely,” Solskjaer told BT Sport. “But we hope to get him back before the end of the season but we’re not sure.”
Manchester United will miss the service of the France international who has scored 4 Premier League goals and provided 5 assists in 22 games. Anthony Martial has played 36 games in all competitions for Manchester United in which he scored a total of 7 goals and provided 8 assists.
