The manager of Manchester United, Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that Anthony Martial has officially told him that he wants to leave the club.

The 26-year-old French footballer has been at the club since September 1, 2015. He joined the Premier League club from French Ligue 1 club, Monaco for a transfer fee worth €60 million which was the highest transfer fee paid for a teenager then.

Initially, the French international used to be one of the most important members of the Manchester United squad. This is evidence in the number of goals and assists he has provided for the club since he arrived at Old Trafford.

Based on available data, Anthony Martial has been able to score 79 goals and provided 50 assists in 268 appearances in all competitions in less than seven years at Old Trafford.

Unfortunately for him, inconsistency, fitness issues, and lack of form have made him a fringe finger at Manchester United starting from the era of coach Ole Gunnar Solskjær to the era of Ralf Rangnick.

Statistically, Anthony Martial had a fair season at the club last season in which he scored 7 goals and provided 10 assists in 37 appearances in all competitions.

But his last season’s form was not enough to guarantee a regular playing time this season. The return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United last summer has limited the game time of Martial under both coach Solskjær and coach Rangnick.

Hence, so far in the 2021-2022 season, the Frenchman has managed to play just 10 games in all competitions mostly from the bench in which he scored a goal.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner might miss out on the French national team squad for the forthcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar if he continues to suffer a lack of game time at Manchester United.

Hence, he is ready to go to a club where he can play more regularly to regain his confidence and form ahead of the World Cup but coach Ralf Rangnick said there is no offer on the table for him yet even though he is linked with a move to Spanish La Liga club Sevilla.

“We spoke at length on Wednesday,” the coach said ahead of the Manchester United league game against Newcastle United scheduled to kick off at 21:00 later today, December 27, 2021.

“He explained to me he’s been at Manchester United now for the last seven years and he feels it’s the right time for a change, to go somewhere else.

“I think in a way this is understandable, I could follow his thoughts but on the other hand, it’s also important to see the situation of the club.

“We have Covid times, we have three competitions in which we still have high ambitions and want to be as successful as we can be.”

Martial became the world’s most expensive teenage footballer when United signed him from Monaco in September 2015. The £36m fees, potentially rising to £58m, made him United’s third most expensive signing at the time after Angel Di Maria and Juan Mata…

“I told him to listen, as long as there is no club showing interest in him, and it should not only be in the interest of the player it should also be in the interest of the club.

“So far, as far as I know, there has been no offer from any other club and as long as this is the case he will stay.”

Anthony Martial still has until June 30, 2024, before his current contract with Manchester United expires. His current transfer market value is said to be €32 million.
