Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham Hotspur’s new manager has admitted that there was no point in trying to persuade Harry Kane to remain at the London club.

The England International striker has joined German Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich.

The Bavarians have chased Kane throughout the summer transfer window and have made several proposals that were turned down by Tottenham.

Bayern finally succeeded in signing their target with an offer of an initial £86 million plus £18 million in add-ons, shattering their previous transfer record.

The breakthrough was made on Wednesday night, August 9, when Bayern Munich submitted a fourth offer that was equal to Spurs’ estimate of £100 million.

Kane decided to depart Spurs and join the German powerhouses on Thursday, August 10.

Ange Postecoglou acknowledged that Kane had already made up his mind to depart during a press conference on Friday, which was held in advance of Spurs’ season-opening match against Brentford on Sunday.

He said: “I didn’t see the point in trying to convince Harry Kane to stay. In my mind he’d already decided to go after the first conversation”.

“He’s one of the greats of this football club, there must have been some torment inside”.

    Ange Postecoglou

After taking charge of Tottenham from Celtic in June, Ange Postecoglou said that he had been ready for the 30-year-old striker’s departure.

Bayern have spent an initial £100 million, and additional payments might bring the total cost of the acquisition to £120 million.

The attacker can win his first trophy tonight when Bayern plays RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup if he signs the five-year, £415,000 per week contract and registers before 3 p.m.

On July 12, the day the striker returned to Spurs’ pre-season training, Kane met with Ange Postecoglou and expressed his willingness to leave in this transfer window should a deal be reached.

Kane departs as the club’s leading scorer with 280 goals in 435 games for Spurs.

With 213 goals in 320 league games for Spurs, Kane is only 47 goals behind Alan Shearer’s Premier League record. He has won the Golden Boot award three times in the Premier League.

Kane’s time at the club, according to Postecoglou, should be remembered for those accomplishments more than the fact that he was unable to help them break their trophy drought, which dates back to 2008.

Postecoglou, whose team play Brentford in their Premier League debut on Sunday, 13th of August, is confident Kane will eventually come back to Tottenham Hotspur.

Harry Kane left Tottenham on the eve of the Premier League season to join Bayern Munich, ending a 19-year relationship with the club. Ange Postecoglou has urged the team to move on fast following the club captain’s departure.

    What’s next for Tottenham Hotspur?

Spurs do not want to use the entire Kane transfer cost to sign a striker.

Postecoglou is willing to give Richarlison, who had a disappointing debut season with the team, a chance in a central position and would like to sign players who are adaptable enough to play across the front three.

However, Brennan Johnson, a winger for Nottingham Forest, is the head coach’s target.

On the other hand, Tottenham Hotspur will face Brentford in their 2023/2024 English Premier League opening game on Sunday, 13th of August, at the Gtech Community Stadium.
