Manchester United legend Andrew Cole has blasted football fans for “disrespecting his name” by comparing him to Liverpool star Darwin Nunez

    Andrew Cole

Andrew Cole was one of the Premier League legends who cemented his place in the pantheon of legends who made their mark in the English top flight.

Andrew Cole carved himself into the history books of the Premier League, emerging fourth in the list of all-time Premier League top scorers.

The Manchester United legend netted 187 Premier League goals during his days as a player.

Drawing parallels between the old stars of the game and the new and emerging stars is not a strange phenomenon among football fans. Comparisons form the heart of the friendly and sublime bankers among fans.

However, it appears Andrew Cole has got pissed up with the comparison and is not taking it lightly.

The Manchester United legend busted with fury as he scolded fans, who compared him to Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez.

Andrew Cole asked football fans in a rather imperative tone to stop disrespecting him by comparing him to Darwin Nunez.

“Stop disrespecting my name,” he said.

Andrew Cole had a great career in the Premier League, but he rose to the leaderboard when he joined Manchester United from Newcastle in 1995.

Cole spent six years with Manchester United and won eight major trophies, including the Treble of the Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League in 1999.

Meanwhile, Darwin Nunez is yet to find his feet since joining Liverpool from Benfica in the last transfer window.

Albeit some flashes of brilliant performance have been recorded, Darwin Nunez has fallen off the pecking order after his £85million move to Anfield.

In his first competitive game for Liverpool, Darwin Nunez raised the hopes of the Reds’ fans when he scored in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Manchester City in Community Shield.

Pundits quickly gave him the credits ahead of another new Premier League arrival from Borussia Dortmund, Erling Haaland.

In the Community Shield, Erling Haaland missed a golden chance in front of an opened net while Darwin Nunez outshined him and was tipped to live up to expectations going into the Premier League.

However, both fans and pundits have been greeted with an irony. Darwin Nunez has not lived up to the bidding, while Erling Haaland has taken the Premier League by storm.

Things worsened for Darwin Nunez when he was red-carded in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Anfield, making him miss a number of games.

Despite the glaring gap between Andrew Cole and Darwin Nunez, some fans have compared the Uruguayan to the Manchester United legend.

    Cole, who immediately took offense after the comparison, tweeted;

“Cole .., Nunez… not sure we’re (sic) this nonsense started !!!

“But it’s Christmas, the festival season… I am happily retired….

He went on to enumerate his achievements and records.

“Five PL (titles), 2 FA cups . One league cup. One Champion League.. gold boot YPOTY. 187 Premier League goals . One pen. Life is what you make it.

    Cole added:

“People need to stop disrespecting my name… because I don’t play the game, just a quiet guy getting on with life people think they can disrespect me.”

“Look at the numbers and compare them to anyone else …”

Andrew Cole has an intimidating Premier League tally. With his 187 Premier League goals, he comfortably sits fourth on the all-time Premier League top-scorers chart. He is only behind Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney, and Harry Kane on the chart.

At Manchester United, Andrew Cole was instrumental to the Red Devils’ Premier League successes in his six years with the club, winning five Premier League titles, including the Champions League in 1999.

On the other hand, Darwin Nunez has fallen from the anticipated hero to a derided flop. Nevertheless, there are still glimmers of hope for the Uruguayan. He has scored 9 goals and secured three assists in 19 matches for the Reds this season.
