Former Manchester United midfielder Anderson has been ordered to serve prison time for failing to pay £45,000 in child maintenance.

The 36-year-old retired footballer, who won four Premier League titles with Manchester United, has been given an ultimatum by a family court judge in his hometown of Porto Alegre, Brazil.

The shocking event unfolded after the family judge ordered him to pay the owed amount or face 30 days behind bars last week.

The decision, made last week, has only recently come to light, sending shockwaves through the football community.

Daily Mail confirmed the report stating that Anderson, who also played for Fiorentina and Internacional during his career, could find himself behind bars at the Irmao Miguel Dario Prison in Porto Alegre unless he settles his debt.

Meanwhile, the 36-year-old Brazilian has been offered the option of a ‘semi-open’ prison regime, allowing him to work or study outside the jail during the day, returning to sleep there at night as per Brazilian news outlet GZH.

However, neither Anderson nor his legal representative has commented on the situation, leaving many to wonder how the former Brazil international found himself in this predicament.

Anderson’s Illustrious career with Manchester United

Anderson made an impressive 181 appearances for the Red Devils between 2007 and 2015, winning 12 titles under the guidance of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

During his time at Old Trafford, Anderson had the privilege of playing alongside some of the finest players of his generation, forging a successful career that would see him become a fan favorite.

After departing United in 2015, Anderson returned to his native Brazil to join Internacional, where he spent three years before moving to Turkish side Adana Demirspor.
