Amrabat of Morocco has earned the praise of President Emmanuel Macron while Bouno’s child disrupted his dad’s post-match press conference.
Morocco was the surprise team of the 2022 World Cup after they broke the bounds to give Africa their first-ever World Cup semifinalists.
The Atlas Lions gave an outstanding performance right from the group stage. No team was able to break through their brink-wall defence.
Grouped with 2018 World Cup heroes – Croatia and Belgium, Morocco emerged as group winners with seven points and peeped 2018 third-place winners – Belgium to qualify for the round of 16 of the tournament.
Morocco eliminated Spain and Portugal to reach the semifinals. Despite losing to France, Fiorentina midfielder Amrabat has been instrumental to the team in the tournament. His performance has shot him into the radar of top clubs in Europe.
According to reports, Premier League giants Liverpool are plotting a move for Amrabat. Jurgen Klopp is said to have held a meeting with Morocco ahead of their World Cup campaign to push for a move for the 26-year-old.
Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has used Amrabat in the Morocco World Cup games.
Amidst interest from top European clubs, Amrabat has 18 months left on his contract. In January 2021, he was linked to a move to Tottenham.
Last season, Amrabat was consigned to the bench at Fiorentina. This season, he has stepped up his game and is a regular starter.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Macron said in front of the Morocco squad that Amrabat was “the best midfielder of the tournament.”
Yassine Bouno’s Son Mistook A Microphone For Iced Cream
Another Moroccan player who pulled a heroic display to take the Atlas Lions to the World Cup semifinals was Yassine Bouno.
Yassine Bouno saved three penalties against Spain to help the team reach the quarterfinals. Bouno’s son was the center of a hilarious scene during a post-match press conference after the quarterfinal win over Portugal.
Bouno carried his adorable infant son to the post-match press conference after the game. While fielding questions from the interview, his son mistook the purple foam head of the microphone for ice cream.
He reached out to lick it with his tongue, prompting his dad and the interviewer to howl with laughter.
Before he reached out to lick it, the lad prodded the mic with his finger. The interviewer then took it away and returned it, only for the lad to try licking it again.
His father restrained him gently as both laughed out the scene with the interviewer.
Meanwhile, potential suitors have been at beck of Bouno following his brilliant display with Morocco in the World Cup.
Premier League clubs – Wolves and Aston Villa – are reportedly interested. There are also reports Bayern Munich is eyeing him as a potential replacement for injured Manuel Neuer.
Bounou’s stock is now high after a fantastic World Cup, with Aston Villa and Wolves reportedly keen.
But reports in Spain claim he is now on Bayern Munich’s list as a replacement for Manuel Neuer, who broke his leg while skiing after Germany’s early World Cup exit.
